I was puzzled for ages by the line 'I want to swim down the Champs Elysees' (it was in a perfume ad), but joined in vigorously.

It was only when my son heard my tuneless rendition and burst out laughing that I could even hear the real words - 'I want to swing from the chandeliers'. I still think the song sounds more like my version, even though it makes no sense. Judge for yourselves

When I was very little, my aunt taught me to sing Beatles songs to entertain her friends, and I learnt 'She Loves You' off by heart.

I thought it was a strange song, but as a child didn't give it a lot of thought until years later, when I realised the words weren't 'She said I heard her sew. She almost lost her mind.'
