What's for lunch and dinner today?

Lunch was hot cross buns, dinner will be chicken and....... something ?????

A bowl of muesli for lunch. Dinner will be chicken in a pesto and cream sauce with spaghetti and the remains of a biscuit and strawberry cake for dessert.

Lunch was lentil soup with oat cake and cheese. Evening meal, cottage pie made with mince, onion, mushroom and mixed bean base, a layer of sliced sweet potato and topped with mashed potato, accompanied by curry and coconut flavoured cauliflower. Dessert - leftover Christmas cherry trifle from the freezer.
No heatwave in N.E Scotland, just quite warm.

I’m on my own here … as usual I did a roast Sunday lunch! My friend and we have done this ever since we were left on our own …. Unless there are family invites. I admit my part of the country is not nearly as hot as elsewhere, but a nice cold lager before and a chilled wine with, is just the ticket!

Lunch for me was a cucumber sandwich, I don’t think dh has had his yet!
Dinner, cold roast chicken (cooked in advance yesterday) baked potatoes (14 mins in microwave) and salad.

Minimum faff, but I might just exert myself to mix some mayonnaise with curry powder, mango chutney and lemon juice, as a sort of dip, to liven up the chicken.

Cereal for breakfast, don't av lunch, probably fish and chips for tea.

AlisonK I don't understand why you think this post is all about 'comfortably-off, smug people'. I would say that at least half of those who have replied are having salad with various accompaniments - from boiled eggs to salmon, and several who are having salad are picking it from their gardens. Salad with 'something' doesn't sound overly luxurious to me. And I notice you haven't come back to answer those (including me) who thought your post was very much unnecessarily rude and nasty.

Lunch for me is always the same so salad with egg, tomatoes, cucumber, spinach, chicken/ham and cheese.

Later tonight it will be chicken korma and rice. Goodness knows what time probably about 9 when hopefully it's cooler.

Oh, and having this thread does not mean that we don’t care about the millions suffering poverty, either. So canter away on your high horse, Alison, if this thread upsets you so much.

Surely the more knowledgeable we are about food AlisonKF the better informed we will be about preparing good nutritious meals from a variety of inexpensive ingredients. It's not showing off or disgusting.

I wonder why some posters feel the need to come onto threads such as this to lecture others? We all have to eat, and it’s a bit of harmless fun to say what you might be having - also gives a bit of inspiration to me when I’m not sure what to have.

I think we are all well aware of the difficulties faced by so many, it doesn’t mean that we can’t have a thread like this.

Yes, I think they are all more aware now since Hugh's War on Waste but there's a long way to go!

We produce enough food which is just wasted in this country to make millions of meals for hungry families.

Supermarkets need to be made to feel guilty as they reject perfectly edible food produced by farmers and waste stocks of food near its sell-by date too.
Luckily there are people out there with the initiative to try to improve this situation who will take this food and distribute and sometimes cook it, but we should not be made to feel guilty about this.

Lunch was a barbecue, salmon and prawn kebabs with halved big tomatoes sprinkled with garlic, parsley and olive oil. Dessert was strawberries.
Sorry too late now for a picture, but here is evidence of what was drunk between us two!
Tonight is breadsticks and homemade hummus, and open sandwiches with ham, cucumber, tomato.

Newgran it is too hot for me to think about having fish and chips, preferably bought from the shop.

I am only really a fan of salad in this scorching weather because it is too hot for me to even boil an egg.

For anybody interested, I worked hard for my pension after 40 years of hard graft and to save money in my "retirement" I found 3 small part-time jobs. It is easier to find work in London but it is more expensive to live here.

My apologies if I dine too well on cooked chicken and salad.

I think many of us can remember the worry of those days.

Today will be anything with courgettes!
As will tomorrow
And the next couple or three weeks ?

It is too hot for me to look at my air fryer so yesterday I bought cooked pieces of chicken and a small prepared salad. Perfect for two suppers on my own. No wine because I opened and finished a bottle of dry white at the beginning of the week.

I had a late breakfast of toast with a banana so that was more of a brunch.
