Films that everyone likes .... except you!

Let me join with those who were bored by The Greatest Showman. Almost dropped off but it was the only film locally to take my grandchildren to. Also disliked the musical version of Les Miserables. Generally,I find that turning se rious and dramatic prose works into musicals produces a travesty.

Titanic. I couldn't wait for the ship to sink.

The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption and Sound of Music - disliked with a passion!

Star Wars. Never seen one all the way through but seen so many clips it feels like I have.
Got taken to the cinema to see the fourth one that was actually the first one (I think) and half way through went and chatted to the lad selling popcorn.

Pretty woman. Cringe!

Dirty Dancing. Double cringe.

Oh my goodness, those are three of my favourite films! I also love Dirty Dancing.

Harry Potter I purposely slept through it when I took the grandkids they thought it hilarious (me sleeping I mean)
MR TURNER the most boring long winded film I ve ever seen I went with three friends and we were all close to leaving

BlueBelle Totally agree with you about the Turner film, but I remember that you, like me, really enjoyed the Lowry film. I haven’t seen Tim Spall in a film since then.

I haven’t seen The Greatest Showman, but after all the adverse comments in this thread, feel I’m going to have to watch it sometime to see if I agree ?
I’m surprised that quite a few people have mentioned Dirty Dancing and The Sound of Music, I really thought I would be the only one who disliked both of them.

The greatest showman and Mama Mia, absolute drivel. I dislike musicals anyway but they were awful.
Lord of the rings, tried to watch several times but kept falling asleep.

Mama Mia is dire. Any Harry Potter. Everything that’s a Disney cartoon film.

I liked The Greatest Showman much to my surprise and I loved the bright, colourful cheerfulness of Mama Mia.

Petera Yes, I wanted to see that one, but COVID numbers were very high when it was on here, so gave it a miss. I’ve been to the cinema a few times in the last couple of years, but only in between peaks of infection.

GraceQuirrel I’m another Tarantino admirer, although I didn’t really enjoy his last one. One of my favourite films ever is From Dusk til Dawn which he both starred in and wrote the screen play for, but didn’t direct nor produce it.

I hated every minute of The Deer Hunter. I had to stay and watch it as I was in the cinema with my boyfriend who loved it!

But La La Land I started to watch on TV and switched off during the first silly scene.

I was disappointed with Titanic the first time as I was expecting the story of the ship and its passengers, not a love story! I found the love story irrelevant, but have accepted it the second time around and it's rather sweet.

During the original version of Alfie, the one with Michael Caine, I fainted during the abortion scene and was sent home in a taxi.
I saw the newer version, the one with Jude Law, and managed to see it all the way through.
I don't like the Star Wars series. But love Star Trek.

henetha I quite like kitchen sink dramas, but they can be rather brutal.
Alfie was such a horrible character. The way he treated Jane Asher’s character was awful

It’s timeless.
I’ve got the audio version of the book on which it was based.
It’s by Walter Lord and read by Martin Jarvis.
I’ve listened to it several times. It’s absolutely compelling.

Over the weekend having missed the beginning of The Lake House - I got fed up with it quite quickly. But perhaps it was my fault !

I prefer old musicals because of the nostalgia , costumes dancing and also because people could actually sing !
It's why I don't like newer musicals and have to be discrete as to why with most of my friends ,who seem to love them .
I'm an opera and classical music lover .

Totally agree about Mr Turner. I fell asleep even though I enjoy painting.

The remake of Alfie with Jude Law was rubbish because the original was of its time and I found it upsetting when I saw it as a teenager. There's no longer the stigma of unmarried pregnancy (thank goodness).

Lord of the Rings: dreadful, boring, worst film I've seen

Dunkirk: just noise, all the way through, disappointing

Star Wars: Awful film, a mess, my friend slept through it, I wish I had.

Re: Mamma Mia. I'm a massive Abba fan and only Abba should sing their songs. Seen clips of it, which were dire.
