Enough with the jubilee already.

HM has achieved an incredible milestone but I’m really not interested in the celebrations. I realise this makes me a miserable old curmudgeon. I haven’t seen any bunting or flags in my village and I certainly won’t be putting any up. I remember painting some windows on the Silver Jubilee holiday, have no recollection of what I did for the Golden one (probably similar) and next weekend I will be gardening, weather permitting. I didn’t realise until a couple of weeks ago that the holidays weren’t on Friday and Monday. I bet there will be some excuses for not going to work on the Monday!

I shall hang the bunting out at the front of the house this morning.
Also hanging bunting round pergola over spa.
I wasn’t born at the time of the coronation, enjoyed the silver and golden jubilee and intend to enjoy this one.

Well be having a bbq with family on Friday as we do on a lot of bank holiday’s and our local has some events on. I’ll watch some of the TV, MrJ is unlikely to, he’ll probably play golf.
But I’ve no problem with others enjoying their events, on the 2nd June last year MrJ had his covid jab, different times.

My grandsons primary school had a concert on the playing field, singing a song from each of the 7 decades. Lots of flag waving, cups of tea and scones, and joy.
The head teacher reminded us that none of us would ever experience 70 years of a reigning monarch again, so important for the children to remember it.
That's the limit of my celebrations though. All too much hype as usual.

Well whatever you’re doing, even if you’re sitting at home with a cob on determinedly churning over how much you hate the monarchy and all its doings, do try to enjoy it. Life’s too bloody short to be miserable.

Not too bothered about any of it will head for the beach.

I think it’s great!
But I’m very patriotic ?? and more than happy to celebrate our Queen.
Plus it brings communities together which is lovely. I feel a bit sad for people who hide inside their homes peeking through the curtains at other people enjoying themselves.

Exactly my feelings. I am so bewildered as to why on earth anyone (except those gew who really benefit), want to celebrate our dreadfully unequal society. Bowing, curtsying, touching the forelock to a totally unelected Head of State who is - along with her extensive family - probably the biggest recipient of benefit in the UK!!

Have managed to avoid all these celebrations over my life (yes, we and the neighbours did crowd round my parents newly hired 12 inch tv in June 1952. That was the only time, I can remember my much older brother slamming out of the house stating "well, her son will never be crowned!". Often wondered, since, if I should have placed a bet on that!!!

Back in 1977 - our family went out for the day to Whipsnade Zoo, which was virtually empty - we had the most wonderful day there away from sycophantic 'celebrations'.

Last one, my little Close was having a 'do'. Gave permission for them to use my driveway, and I went out very early, before street closure and stayed at my daughter' s house.

This time, one of my daughters and her family are coming down to visit me (half-term), so we will be out and about both of those two days - but all of us (adults and children) trying very hard to ignore this imposed (during half-term) 'holiday'.

Street parties bring back memories of the Silver Jubilee when neighbours organised one and expected everybody to contribute and join in. Now I couldn’t do neither as my then DH was dead against any such thing, as well as we could hardly spare the cash. Having two young children who wanted to join in the celebrations, I was between the devil and the deep blue sea. In the end myself and the boys went, causing another major row.

Well I for 1 want to celebrate, I want to be part of it, we won't see this again in our lifetime.

The village next to us are having celebrations which we will go to, I havent planned anything myself because we have visitors Wednesday-Saturday so to add a jubilee celebration on top of being the hostess with the mostesss would be too much but I cant let the day pass without doing something, it's a day to be proud, to celebrate 70 years on the throne, well it is in my view. ??

Has anybody seen the picture of the little boy who had to dress up for school jubilee events and went as a striking miner from 1984? Or the little girl who went as a pict? ??

We are having a huge street party which we shall attend. As someone said it is an opportunity to meet the neighbours after being stuck at home for two years. It is something the children will remember for the rest of their lives.
