Do you iron tea towels

If I take things out the tumble dryer as soon as it stops then lay out everything neatly over the furniture, there's seldom anything that needs ironing. One exception is a glass cloth which always remains crumpled, so I iron that.

When we loved in Zambia and Kenya many years ago we had to iron everything because if the Putzi fly laying its eggs... If the sun didn't kill the eggs, the iron did. We couldn't iron the dog though and dad had to squeeze the fly maggots out of the poor dog's skin, after the eggs hatched.

i knew somebody that "trained" their washing not to need the iron. how that worked i do not know but i do know ironing should be made illegal .

What's a tea towel?? And what about an an iron?? I iron as little as I can get away with as infrequently as possible - I have 8 shirts & 2 dresses which have been waiting for the iron for months. I rarely use a tea towel....

Yes I do. They are the first things I iron each time I do any ironing. If the iron is going to splutter marks or scale on anything it's only a tea towel and not my favourite top.

I iron tea towels, I find it quite satisfying, plus I reckon it kills off any bacteria .

I sometimes iron pillowcases, and jeans if they haven’t had a good blow on the washing line, I wouldn’t dream of ironing anything else.

NO!!! I don’t iron really. Clothes only get creased up again in the drawers / wardrobe. I fold neatly, put away and, if necessary, iron things as and when I wear them. I would never iron tea towels!!!

Some people just like ironing. I loathe and despise it and the idea of ironing a teatowel is beyond my ken. (Husband irons the duvet covers and pillowcases.)

I don't iron anything. I did buy a steamer to try instead of using the iron but I don't use that either.

Happysexagenarian I do that too ? I don't normally iron tea towels but having had spluttering on my white shirts I now get a tea towel out and iron that before I do anything else, just in case.

I iron as little as possible - but yes I do iron as I like the look and feel of ironed clothes. Sad I think! My Mum and Nan ironed everything! I iron my tops and trousers/jeggins, my husbands shirts, t shirts and trousers or shorts and his bedding - we have joined but single beds. I don’t iron stuff we wear for gardening etc, just fold that. Def don’t iron t towels and underwear.

Hardly use tea towels after seeing a programme which showed how they can spread bacteria through over use. Dishwasher on Eco programme washes and air dries all pots, pans dishes and cutlery used during the day to a much better standard than hand washers. I just wish someone would invent dishwasher paddles that you could dismantle to get the occasional bit of long grain rice out. My mum used to iron pants, socks and even towels.... She came home horrified having visited a friend who chucked all the dried washing under the stairs and just fished out what she needed to wear for ironing on the day. Needless to say I thought that was a great idea and immediately followed suit, though I do fold everything as I take it in from the washing line so little actually needs ironing anyway.

Interesting that what our mums did sometimes put us right off! Mine ironed everything too & her days revolved around what stage she was at with her washing. Bored me silly. I worked in a quite posh school until retirement so had to iron my clothes regularly. Until I retired I also had a luxury static caravan i let out so had a heap of white Egyptian cotton bedding to launder every week & it had to be perfect. From the first day of retirement I have never used an iron and never will.

Sorry I actually like ironing I do find it soothing. I do iron tea towels but draw the line at underwear and actually have no man anyway (thank the lord!)

As I’m now living with my daughter her cleaner irons my bedding but I always iron my own clothes as I feel uncomfortable expecting her to do it for me

My DS stayed over at the weekend and used my iron for a shirt. He commented that he knew I didn't do much ironing as it had dust on it. The evidence is there...

I don't have a board or iron at the moment as we've got builders in and everything is packed away. But I'm not embarrassed to say that I usually iron teatowels (and cotton/linen pillowcases) it only takes a minute and looks so much better hanging in the kitchen. Some thicker teatowels don't need doing though, and neither do polycotton pillowcases.
I don't iron anything else, unless it's for a special occasion.

All the ladies who haven’t ironed for decades - I realise some may have been single or sadly widowed, some may not have had children, but all the rest, what happened to your husband’s shirts, the school uniforms, your work clothes?

Yes, I iron tea towels and serviettes and handkerchiefs and some of my blouses and most of my skirts and scarves.

At one time I ironed bed-linen and tablecloths as well, but stopped that somewhere around 1990, due to pressure of work and not a lot of time for housework.

Now having retired I have more time for ironing, a job I have always enjoyed.
