A bit off point, as usual, but in America clothes for overweight youths are described as 'husky'. Somehow, I find that very funny.?

I decided to own my fatness, and started saying I’m fat if I need to describe myself. I found it interesting that some people react with distress, or even shock, if you describe yourself as fat!

Other than ‘fat’, I think the word ‘stout’ was used a few generations ago to describe someone of generous proportions. There’s also ‘well-covered’.

Of course, some cultures would describe us as beautiful!

As far as I am concerned I am fat and it's that simple. I don't look for alternatives to sugar coat it. I just say it how it is when talking about myself, fat or seriously overweight are the only words I use. I hate the word plump it makes me want to scream, sounds like the way you'd describe a chicken with plenty of breast

My grandfather once described a 'large' lady relative as 'a woman of substance'.

And while shopping with my grandmother one day she drew my attention to a lady with a very large posterior striding along on the other side of the road and remarked with a chuckle "Hey up head, my arse is coming!"

I too am very overweight (steroids problem) but I don't mind being described as fat, it's what I am. I'm too old now to be easily offended. But if my Mum was still around I'm sure she'd find a way!

I don't think dress size is an indicator of shape/size.

A size 14 is a squeeze for someone who is short but 'heavy' but perfect for someone of the same weight but eight inches taller.

One would have to give height and weight detail to give a more accurate self-description - and who wants to do that?!

In Disney world language larger people are described as “Pooh sized” - won’t suit everyone but probably a kinder word than lots of others ??

In the States, the euphemism 'heavy' is used, as in "I am a little heavy at the moment".

An aunt of my husbands greeted him with : Oh you are very portly! He was.

I was told I had childbearing hips and then I proved it by giving birth at 37 weeks to a 10lb 14oz son, naturally, no stitches etc.

Big boned does actually apply to me, I had a density scan done years ago. ?

I'm kind of lucky in that I'm 6ft tall, so my weight is slightly disguised.

My Sister in Law calls herself a 'Big Girl'. She's a Gran herself.

I prefer to describe myself as voluptuous. I said to someone recently, ‘think Vicar of Dibley with white hair’.

In the winter I describe myself as 'well lagged', I also love the description of a larger lady being 'warm in the winter and providing shade in the summer!!'
