What store do you wish was still here.?

BHS (British Home Stores), they were great for lighting and home linens.

Home & Colonial (now that's going back a bit) lovely fresh, quality foods and excellent service.

Debenhams, just a great store

Swan & Edgar, great quality and exceptional customer service

Mappin & Webb jewellers - a feast for the eyes even if I couldn't afford their prices!

Harrods - Yes, I know it's still there, but not how it used to be. Too many low quality lines, cheap and nasty to draw the tourists in. Customer service has declined as well.

Edinburgh Woollen Mills. Our high street store closed last year, now there is only an in-store franchise further away. I liked their knitwear and jackets.

Yes I remember MacFisheries. Lovely fresh fish.

I miss East, Debenhams, Monsoon&Woolworths,

Debenhams loved their variety of clothing from high end to everyday.sad loss.boohoo & co don't cater for anything but trashy looks with chopped off tops , bellies hanging out aaargh!
Timothy whites discount! Fantastic range from high end cosmetics and clothes to housewares like TK maxx but MUCH better!

Dear old Jenner's on Princes Street Edinburgh of course. Fabulous place when I worked there in the 1970s. Such a history and so much more that I discovered after writing my first book. The lives of the staff were so amazingly different from nowadays. They lived in and could spend their whole lives in service there. So many more stories than I could ever make up.
I'm so glad it's being sympathetically restored and will be a high end retailer again. This time the many bedrooms will be for customers as a hotel is planned for the upper storeys. I'm really looking forward to being able to return

B & H for lighting. I need a new desk lamp and they were my first thought.

Woollies but Wilkinsons seem to be a good substitute.

Heres a weird thing. In 2018 we had long weekend in Edinburgh and I went into Jenner's very late on the Thursday almost deserted store, I wandered each floor and elevator and each dept taking pictures, why? I don't know! I just wanted to capture the old world charm and style, so glad I did so sad its gone☹️

I remember Pollards I used to go along with my Mum to get Grandma vests and knickers

Meant to add that I hope the restoration is good and to historical level of accuracy it's so important to remember our retail heritage

Woolworths and Debenhams are the stores I miss most.

Laura Ashley. Couldn’t afford their clothes when I was young and now that I can, they are no more.

I miss all the shoe shops, Freeman, Hardy and Willis, Ravel, Dolcis, Sacha. Not much choice these days...

And Saxone.

I used to like Ravel.

Laura Ashley. Can still get a few bits in Next but it is not the same. Grossly over-priced so only bought in the sale or outlet but their furniture, wallpaper and fabrics were delicious!!! Not so much their clothes.

Maynards - all the sweets in the world! It was next door to David Greggs which was an early version of a delicatessen. The smell was gorgeous.
