Pins or nappi nippas ?

And hear am I shocked, I tell you SHOCKED that you always used nappy pins.

Back in 1970 when I produced DD1 we were kept in hospital for 10 days. During this time we were taught how to fit terry square nappies by folding and tucking - not a safety pin in sight. My DGC were also in terry nappies and I showed their Mums the technique which they soon mastered.

I remember having to fold nappies instead of using pins in hospital but I cannot for the life of me remember how it stayed secure.

Well done for looking after your grandchild you are being very supportive. I helped look after my grandchildren for over two years. We used pull-ups there is nothing easier to use and quicker to put on and get off.
I used the folded nappy method when I had my own children. I had them both potty trained as soon as they were on their feet. They went to preschool nursery and would not have been accepted unless they were toilet trained.

Crumbs re 10 days in hosp in 1970, or was this for a C section, or not in the UK? 48 hrs for me, and I've never heard of the folding method. How can nappy pins suddenly be so wrong and dangerous when they were used for generations without any outcry?

Yes it was routinely ten days in hospital for a first baby here in 1976 and then a two day stay for any thereafter.

In 1960 we weren't even allowed pit of bed for the first 48hrs! Bed pans and bed baths, oh how I longed for a soothing soak in the bath.
For some reason enemas were routine, and stitches were almost more usual than not - you scarcely heard of someone avoiding them. It wasn't all sweetness and light like the TV Call the Midwife.
But I digress. I think it was the sheer physical work of soaking and boil washing terries that burger us on to get the babies 'dry', plus the constant fight against nappy rash.
Nappy nippers sound amazing, I wish we'd had them.
(I wonder why we were never taught the folding system).
