No, ninathenana, especially if you were keeping to the speed of the general traffic too.

There was a 50mph speed limit on a motorway near us for a very long time and everyone got used to it then one day it had been changed to 40mph - a lot of drivers were caught out and the fines must have filled the coffers very nicely.

It does make you wonder if that's one of the reasons they do it Callistemon

I got caught on part of the motorway into Edinburgh where it dropped to 50 mph. I was mortified, especially as it showed up on my teaching disclosure form ?.

Think nothing if it! I got caught once doing 37 in a 30 area at 1 am in the morning after picking my son and his friend up in Leeds after a concert. I was fed up but our boys were really amused as they think I am the slowest thing on wheels!

There are a few permanent 50mph limits on the motorway near us, Smileless and apparently it is to reduce pollution.
However, at certain times every day, the tailbacks can go on for miles, crawling along at about 5 or 10mph if you're lucky.
It seems counter-productive as it must cause more pollution!

I’ve been on three speed awareness courses. Not clever, I know. Until the convictions ran out (after 4 years) I had to pay extra insurance, and in fact my original insurance company didn’t want to know. You have to let them know or your insurance is invalid. I have been very good over the past few years. There are roads around here where for instance the speed limit drops from 70 mph to 50 mph very quickly. On one of my speed awareness courses a little old lady was caught in a town she wasn’t used to and hadn’t quite grasped the speed limits. I’m not sure that’s an excuse!

My daughter too has been driving for 30 plus years without a blemish and got a ticket for the same as you Ninathenana going just over 50 when she was in a line of traffic doing the same, she was mortified and had to pay £100 and do the online course to avoid getting points

Don't beat yourself up about this. Clean license for me after years of driving, but it happened to me , I was mortified!! Felt like a criminal. You feel bad now but it will pass , relax and don't worry.

My mother aged 86 received her first speeding ticket last year ! 35 mph in a 30 mph area, she too was mortified.

I've only been on two speed awareness courses! Once, I was caught twice in one morning, incurring one fine and one course. At the time, if you agreed to go on a course, you were excused the fine, but it might be different now or differing from one police area to another. I claim to have a heavy right foot.

I too have been on a speed awareness course. I was bored but not embarrased.

Ninathenana don't worry about it. You may find out on the speed awareness course why the motorways are constantly changing the speed limits these days. Then come back and tell us!
On parts of the M62 - I find that one the worst culprit - on a stretch a couple of weeks ago it went from 60 to 50 to 40 to 50 to 40 it was about 9.30 so not particularly busy but a steady flow and it's hard switching up and down.
I feel for the lorry drivers switching up and down. These smart motorways have not made them safer.
I did a speed awareness course in 2013 I found it really good and I have been more conscious of my driving since and of avoiding speed Van's in North Yorkshire.
We have a speed van regularly near the Asda in a spot where nobody has been hit and there are no houses total cashcow. Yet there are so many speeding hotspots that would welcome the camera 24/7.

Been on two. I'm not a dangerous driver but its easy to go over the limit without thinking when there is hardly any traffic and its quite safe.
