Sounds of a Sunday morning

Dread to think what my dogs and cat would do to an artificial lawn Rosiebee [
Our commune doesn't allow grass cutting on a Sunday.

Artificial lawn are deadly for cats and dogs when the weather is hot.

Not a fan of these lawns, I’ve not seen one yet that doesn’t look artificial. Anyway, I would miss the daisies , buttercups , clover and moss.

A young couple near me have just moved in to their new home. I was very pleased to see them removing the artificial lawn and replacing with turf.

We have a family of hedgehogs who live in our garden and all this fake grass and block paving is causing the wildlife to suffer.

Oh goodness, this thread title immediate took my thoughts to Kris Kristofferson’s fabulous song ‘Sunday Mornin’ Coming Down’.

The house next to us has an artificial lawn. The house owner paid an exorbitant amount of money to have his natural lawn lifted and the artificial one laid and he went out of his way to let all the neighbours know it too! You know the sort, 'got to have the best,' 'spend the most', 'get it first' mentality............three years on and it looks dreadful. The problem is, dust gathers on the membrane beneath the artificial grass thus creating a perfect environment for seeds to germinate and before too long you've an artificial lawn........complete with real weeds! ???

Also people don’t take care of their artificial lawn because they think it doesn’t need any but it does. Heavy usage and no maintenance makes it look awful after a few years. You can’t have a barbecue on it either in case you burn it. It doesn’t grow back!

I have a plastic garden neighbour. Plastic grass, plastic sofas and one shrub that is by a fence, too deep-rooted and awkwardly-placed to remove. It’s a buddleia cultivar that he lets grow up and then chainsaws to the ground just as it’s about to flower. I have fence-high shrubs with rambling roses trailing through and lots of hiding places for birds to nest. Each to one’s own.

I've come over all unnecessary sue. I love Kris Kristofferson and that song.

Our Sunday sound is the sporty bloke two gardens down talking to his mate while sitting in the hot tub!!

My home is an eight minute walk to the church. So Sunday morning sounds for me are the church bells.

Love that song. I have the Johnny Cash version.

When I was a child we lived next door to the church and could hear the singing and the organ playing. I can picture my dear old mum peeling potatoes at the sink and putting the roast in the oven whilst singing along to Onward Christian Soldiers at the top of her voice. Wonder what she'd have made of plastic grass!

Sunday sounds now ....bird song, church bells, lawn mowers and the tooting of the train at the local heritage steam railway.

We saw Kris Kristofferson live a few years ago and he sung that song, of course. His voice may be grizzled and rough but oh, he still had it. It was just him and his guitar and he had the concert hall in the palm of his hand for two hours. ❤️

Sunday sounds here ducks and geese on the canal at the back of the house, the odd boat chugging by, lawnmowers and the incessant yapping of a dog two doors down.

Just moved house and Sunday’s are filled with all sorts;
Power tools
Sirens, we live near an ambulance station
Motorbikes accelerating, we live near a traffic light

Most of all;
The sound of people playing tennis and claps and chatter as our long garden backs on to playing fields and a huge common.

Love the diversity of sounds ?

Reading your Sunday sounds makes me think I can smell roast dinner cooking! This is a lovely thread.

I HATE artificial lawns
no special sounds here just the usual traffic passing by

Very quiet here most mornings. The church bells ring out the time every fifteen minutes but apart from that we get the odd car passing along the lane and not much else.

No sounds at all except the birds, and at this time of year perhaps a combine and tractor doing the harvesting. Peace, perfect peace.

This morning the birds were singing especially the robins, gunshots from somewhere which we always hear around this time of year unfortunately country sports?? and all that nonsense and also children in a hot tub a few houses along from us.

Oh SueDomin yes - lucky you indeed! Love that song and Kris Kristofferson is great. How about The Highwaymen - how I would have loved to have seen that group. "Sunday Mornin' Coming Down" always makes me feel sad - it's a poignant song.

Fairly quiet here some road noses as the road hasn't been made up yet and the malware is proud of the ser ice so the odd bump or two as trailers Tec delivery vans clunk over it. Lots of the young people here are having Astroturf as they don't want the bother of a lawn and don't do gardening.

What I like to hear are birds singing, a few cars passing by, maybe someone cutting their grass. When I was a child I liked to hear the church bells ringing in the village where we lived. Now we hear all of the above plus the neighbours large dog barking early in the morning, although today, unusually, it is quiet.
