How the Royal Family might change with Charles (then William) as Monarch?

But since we were being light hearted, I was making a joke that after independence, should that blessed day ever come, the Queen might want to be more associated with the Scots side of her family than the other side. You know, a joke?

All the titles and honours they award themselves, it's so ridiculous. The monarchy is unlikely to change in any meaningful way until the media in this country becomes more independent and that seems unlikely too. So whether it's Charles or William doesn't matter. It suits those in power, the government and media, to keep the status quo. And they call this democracy

lemon grove in a democracy the people get to vote on who represents them. In a democracy the laws made apply to everyone. The head of state should not be exempt. In a democracy the head of state shouldn't be able to decide whether they slim down or keep the "firm" as is.

I think they should self fund - it is just ridiculous they don't, they produce enough to self support?

William and Catherine are of my generation and many of us have struggled to support our families or even buy a house (let alone the misery of private rentals)

We do vote as to who represents us politically.The Monarchy have no powers and cannot get politically involved.
As to money ( needed to maintain them) Parliament awarded them the amount, but the RF could choose to need less by slimming down if they wished to.

The queen and Charles do get involved and use their influence behind the scenes, as has been reported widely.

Lots of things are ‘reported widely’ but it doesn’t make them true.
What things do you suspect the Queen has been meddling in?
When Charles was younger ( maybe still ) he was very interested in the natural world and anything eco.Also in architecture.

No one is seriously talking about Britain adopting a US-style constitution. Republic proposes a parliamentary constitution, basically what we have now but made democratic top to bottom.

A government with too much power

A parliamentary system should put parliament at the centre, accountable only to the voters. In the UK parliament is weak in the face of government power, and that's largely because of the Crown and the monarchy.

The Crown gives the government huge powers to take decisions without parliament or to control parliamentary business, whether that's deciding when parliament will be running or having the power to ensure proposed laws they disagree with have little chance of getting passed.

Well ?it would be a good move ( say, on William’s part in the future) if he opted to give one of them to the NT to manage so that visitors could see all the rooms.The money would then be put to good use by them for so many houses and their upkeep for the nation.
