Helpful husband

Oh yes, my husband's favourite way of helping me with the housework is to say 'You'll tire yourself out doing that lot, why don't you do some tomorrow?'!!!

Oh dear and there’s me thinking ahhh he’s going to take over from you. ? I’d of thrown the vacuum in his direction.

That's awful.
Thank goodness I don't have a husband like that, no.
We are both physical wrecks at the moment, we do a little bit of house work each. And lower our standards!

On the odd (very odd) occasion my dh does something in the house he likes to announce “I’ve done .......... for you”! Grrrr!

This is quite light hearted as he is usually good at helping - when asked. he does do all the veg preparation as I have arthritis. And he still works almost full time even in his seventies

I don't think my late H knew how a vacuum worked, bless him-----in a 3 storey house at the time.

As you've said in your second post (quoted) he is considerate towards you.
I bet he thought he was being helpful!!
Funny though how we can see things differently isnt it?

Yes, my comment was light-hearted too; my husband does help with some jobs. He peels all the veg and he clears up after each meal; he always makes breakfast at weekends (the only time we have a cooked one). But as I am retired and he is still working, I feel it is only fair to wait until he retires before I hand over more of my chores to him!

My husband is the housework king (inherited from his mother who wore vacuum cleaners out in 2 years) I gave up when he used to revacuum an area I had recently done. Now I just let him get in with it.

My OH considers vacuuming “heavy work” which he happily does. Housework needs to be divided up.

7 months ago dh actually vacuumed the bedroom!! I took a photo as proof cos nobody would have believed me otherwise!

Mine is usually very good about sharing the chores but has been ill over Christmas so everything is falling to me. Actually I'm rather enjoying the autonomy but I will be glad to see him at the sink once more!

My DH is pretty good at helping out; he is particularly good at emptying the dishwasher which for some reason is a job I dislike intensely. He vacuums and I dust and plump up cushions and we share bed-making and bathroom cleaning. He also makes all our bread (in a bread-maker, but that's okay) and when asked can whistle up a very nice omelette. So no complaints here! Apart from the fact that he's psychologically incapable of closing a door or drawer or turning off a light in an empty room ....

To the original poster, nick his credit card and buy yourself a robot cleaner!

DH has just offered to take over vacuuming when I suggested I needed a lighter vacuum cleaner than our present one.
We’ll see how long the novelty lasts ...... ?

But he’s currently clearing up after lunch so mustn’t grumble

When we were first married in the 60s, we both worked full time. My dh used to say he had done the washing up, hoovering etc ‘for you’, I put him right pdq.
Friends used to say how ‘lucky’ I was that he ‘helped’. That made me just as cross. That’s when I found feminism.

Some things are timeless. My grandmother told us that her four sons were going off to have fun somewhere and asked whether she was coming with them. She replied that she couldn't as she had a kitchen full of dirty dishes to clear up. "You shouldn't be doing those while we enjoy ourselves!" said one of them. "Leave the dishes, Mum. You can do them when we get back."

I used to tell DH that he did the vacuuming so much better than me, and lo and behold he took it on as his job!

I had thought of this but think all the dog hair would choke it up and the dogs would think it is a new toy!

Why is it that they think we might be interested in how the mill/lathe etc work - in great detail?
