Cat's cradle

I remember cat's cradle along with top and whip, jacks and marbles.

Yes, I used to enjoy 'cats cradle' as a small girl....... I see on you tube it is done together with another child. I only played it on my own! making our own fun!

I don’t know if I’ve had a memory blank but “cat’s cradle “ meant nothing to me. Only when I googled it do I remember playing it as a child but I don’t recall it having a name.
Jane10 you jogged my memories of French skipping with knitted rubber bands in the 60’s , I loved it!

They do it still on occasions it was a little craze a few years back and I remember my granddaughter doing it I can’t still do about five moves but then get stuck

There is a nice little book/kit available (maybe by Koosh?) with some fancy elastic and games to try.
Might be a nice gift for someone. Obviously overpriced when all you really need is yarn but neatly packaged.

I had forgotten this game, so looked it up on You Tube, and there are several lessons to refresh memories.
So now we will all be busy twiddling away. ?

Yes, used to do it alone and with friends.
I was telling GC about it recently. I didn't think I would remember how but as soon as I picked up the loop of wool it all came back to me.

I was never very good at cat's cradle and was surprised when my DGD showed me all the things she could do with it. I'm not sure where she learned it or from whom, but was clearly playing it with friends.

So it's not a lost art!

We certainly did cats cradles at school. It was one of the seasonal crazes that swept the playground. There was skipping with the big rope and various skipping rhymes, French skipping with knotted rubber bands, cats cradle, yoyos etc. I wasn't mu h good at any of them

Playing cat’s cradle is one of my earliest memories
My GM died when I was very young and I remember doing it on my own while my mother and Aunt were looking after her.
I remember the family Dr visiting and when he came down from the bedroom he asked me what I was doing and he made a few of the moves with me.
This was at least 75 years ago.
I am going to get some wool out later and see if I remember anything at all.
