Increased prices - do I tip my hairdresser?

I thought the same Teetime.

I've been informed by friend that our HD has increased her prices considerably around 50% I believe. Ok she has to use PPE and clean round more often but 50% is is taking the .... Will her prices go down when all this is over, I seriously doubt it. I have an appt next month and if she charges me an extra 50% ( £75+ ) I won't be going back.

Well this has got me thinking and I just paid my hairdresser the same with a larger tip because I hadn’t seen her for ages she does mine at home. I’ll ask her next time as this has got me thinking.

I had my hair cut and blow dried yesterday. Price was up slightly but, she said she was planning to put the prices up before Covid as she had not raised them for several years.

I don’t understand those saying they should put them down after Covid. I think it will be a very long time before they will be able to serve as many clients in a day as they did before lockdown and they are still going to have to continue the extra cleaning, laundry etc.

I paid 20.00 for a fringe trim and some off the length of my hair. No wash or blow dry. I certainy didnt leave a tip as i was in the chair for about 20mins and i hated the way the girl did my fringe, and she drove me mad with her constant chatter about her life. I wont be going back which is a shame as i have used the salon for over 10 years but my regular girl has left and i just didnt take to the new one.

I had an appointment on Friday. I had an all over colour and highlights and a cut . I usually pay £90 , it has gone up to £98 and I expected an increase. I still have my stylist a £5 tip. It’s a small salon, only him and the owner work there and there was only me and one other client there . They had to pay for PPE for both of them, client masks and client disposable gowns and handgel and more time between appointments for cleaning chairs etc. It was worth every penny, going to the hairdresser is my one luxury

I have my hair dry cut in the hairdresser's kitchen. I say, "How much do you want?" And that's what I pay. If she wanted a tip she should ask for more and I would pay it. If I went to a salon and there were employees then maybe I would tip. I don't feel comfortable with any tipping in any situation. I like to know what I am paying and pay it. That's probably one reason why I go to this hairdresser.

I had a cut and blow dry last week. The hairdressers in the salon are self employed and "rent a chair" and mine is a lovely, friendly young girl who does my hair perfectly. After 4 months of no cut, looking like a scarecrow I was so delighted to have my hair done, that yes I gave her a tip! I felt like a new person, and it was such a treat since not being able to go anywhere for so long. She is self employed after all.

My hairdresser, self employed, works from her converted garage, and also does mobile.

I say “How much please?”, she tells me and that’s what I pay.

She hadn’t put her prices up, but said she might need to next time.

Fair enough, she is very reasonable which is why I go there.

My hair salon haven’t altered their prices and there was no tipping as no-one wanted cash.
