NannyJan53 Malvern Hills are in my “backyard” and I can see them most days from my upstairs windows. Also a regular theatre-goer in Malvern and they get some great shows, plays and all the recent films in the cinema part. Ahhh. .... hope to be back there soon.

I want to walk along the beach at Holkham, feel the cold sea washing over my feet, and watch the horses thundering by. I visit there every autumn and relish the sky, sea and sand , usually completely alone, with the wind whipping my hair around - it is heavenly.

Living in Shropshire it would be The Long Mynd with a very special person to reminisce about a time many years ago.

Madison, Wisconsin. Never been there but my daughter and family are there, and we were going to visit them this summer. Not now, alas.

Not for a day out, obviously.... That would be Snowdonia.

Rye for me too. Luckily less than an hour's drive from where we live. One of the few places where there is unlimited free parking, near the harbour. We would take the folding bikes and cycle along to the nature reserve, then back for fish and chips in the pub. See you there, Larissa67!

I need a dose of Doctor Suffolk! This county has long been my go-to cure for what ails me and indeed I was planning to move there when I retired. However, I met my DH instead, so that didn't happen.

So - a mooch round the little shops at Snape Maltings, then on to Aldeburgh for fish & chips and a good blowy walk along the beach, stopping to admire Maggi Hambling's Scallop. We'd have to stay overnight because it's too far from home to go for a day, so we would have booked a sea-view room at the Brudenell Hotel where we'd enjoy a very nice dinner, and then fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Perfick!!

A return to lovely Fountains Abbey was high on our to do list this year; and/or a day out at Filey, eating fish and chips, fossil hunting on the beach and bird watching on the Brigg.

I used to live forty-five minutes from Lindisfarne and couldn't get enough of it.

Gabriella - I agree with you about York. We spent 21 happy years there and I haven’t been back for some years. It is a fascinating city and back in the day I was part of the group which saw off the hideous proposal to put a four lane road around the city wall. Unimaginable vandalism!

Iv'e driven round it and always wanted to ride round in my Motorcycle, but never made it, and now no Motorcycle so will have to cross that off.

Fish n chips at that little place at the bottom (maybe first then can walk it off lol)

Lovely simple pleasures

Granny23 if you mean Portobello, Edinburgh, I can assure you everything is fine there as I walked along the beach there this morning. After the lockdown is over I am more than content to stay here in Edinburgh but would like to go a little further afield than I can in my 1 hr daily walk.

So many places mentioned bring back special memories for me. Just wish I could go back in time and visit again with my husband, particularly the Long Mynd, Fountains Abbey and Lidisfarne. Feeling quite emotional remembering happy times.

Me too Maybelater Llandudno was the last little holiday dh and myself went on.

I think people are beginning to reminice at the moment, with these testing times.

Thank You Lettice and Jane 10 for your assurances that the sea is still there in all its wonder. Our family is booked for our annual holiday on the Isle of Barra (or Barradise as we call it) in mid July. I doubt that we will be able to travel there this year but in my dreams I am there on a white beach with turquoise sea, sitting on the terrace watching the boats come and go, or dancing at a riotous Ceilidh.

bikergran. Llandudno must be a special place for you. Our last holiday was on Anglesey with my little grandaughter. Red wharf Bay, flying kites and building sandcastles and fish and chips on the beach.

I lived in Suffolk for 30 years gulligranny many a happy day spent at Snape Maltings and my daughter had her wedding reception in Aldeburgh. Lovely memories.
