Do you hold many secrets, either about yourself or somebody else?

How long have you kept this secret, and what would be the consequences if it ever came out?

P.S. what is it? grin (not really)

None about myself. I know some about others, mainly secret second families/mistresses/afairs

notanan2 Wed 12-Feb-20 22:07:15

I told one once. A second family who lived in close proximity.

Turns out they all knew but pretended not to so were annoyed I brought it up.

I havent told any since.

I’m good at keeping secrets. Other people’s and a big one of my own since childhood. If you can’t keep your own secrets how can you expect others to if you share?

Oh one is sort of about me: friends husband who tried it on when friend was going through cancer treatment angry

Calendargirl Wed 12-Feb-20 22:10:10

My mother said it takes two to keep a secret, and one of them should know nothing about it.

I'm really intrigued by peoples secrets.
I often look at people when I'm out and about and wonder what secrets they have hidden away; maybe some even forgotten by them.

FlexibleFriend Wed 12-Feb-20 22:30:15

None and I don't want to know any either.

So many people in my family have told me their secrets and I really dont like it, I am always on edge talking to different members in case something slips out.

MissAdventure Wed 12-Feb-20 23:27:52

That's a horrible feeling, isn't it?
I have inherited a secret, but things have changed, and it wouldn't serve anyone at all to know the truth now.

notanan2 Wed 12-Feb-20 23:31:33

A lot of the secrets I know are because someone in the family isnt as good a confidente as others think they are...

I have asked them not to tell me secrets that arent theirs to tell, but they do and you cant un hear it

I've kept a family secret since 1975. I have no idea if anyone else knows but I've never told a soul. I'm pretty good at keeping schtum.

TwiceAsNice Wed 12-Feb-20 23:56:10

As a counsellor I keep secrets in my professional life all the time, it’s called confidentiality!

In my personal life I don’t know any deep secrets about any friends etc but if someone in the family speaks to me about someone else I would never repeat it

I'm great at keeping secrets for others snd generally forget unless reminded but I'm too open with my life and blab everything x

sharon103 Thu 13-Feb-20 00:16:39

People's secrets are always safe with me. I never ever tell.

I know a couple of secrets shared from other people, and I will take them to the grave. Haven't even shared them with DH although he knows I have them but respects my promise never to tell. I wish people wouldn't tell me things but I'm known as someone who can hold their tongue. I'm almost relieved that most have come into general knowledge so are no longer "secret".

My DS has taught his children that I am not good at keeping secrets. However I have a secret in my life that I’ve had for over 35 years and haven’t told anyone. My sister has recently shared something with me and asked me not to tell anyone and I am respecting her need for privacy. So my son doesn’t really know me at all!

vena11 Thu 13-Feb-20 08:20:17

I am good at keeping secrets ,I would never betray a trust.

kissngate Thu 13-Feb-20 08:38:24

I've known a secret if you can call it that from 1984. No one told me I was there when it happened. I would never tell friends family as it would cause heartache but I often wonder if one day they will discover the truth.

My OH is useless at keeping secrets my family say dont tell dad he'll wont be able to keep stum.

Nortsat46 Thu 13-Feb-20 08:38:56

I know something very significant about a close family member, which would devastate other family members.

I have kept this secret since 2003, when my sister died.

I would love to tell certain people but they would be hurt and it’s not what my sister would have wanted ... so I have said nothing.

Maybe over time, it has become less important ...

My husband and myself recently stumbled upon someone’s secret.
We are now embroiled in a sad and sorry saga.
The weight of the secret is huge, it has caused us many sleepless nights and lots of tears.
The other couple involved are very aware of the angst it has caused and we are supporting each other.
If I could wind the clock back I would not be involved.

Missfoodlove Thu 13-Feb-20 09:36:28

My MIL told me many years ago a friend had discovered she was adopted and discovered her birth mother.
She asked my MIL to accompany her for their first meeting.
On arrival at the London Hotel they wee both aghast to be greeted by a very famous woman, a household name!
She gave her daughter 20 minutes of her time and a large cheque.
She was told never to make contact again.
My MIL took her secret to the grave.

kircubbin2000 Thu 13-Feb-20 09:51:28

I have told someone else's secret to a person they knew as I presumed they already knew. She was quite shocked and later stopped speaking to either of us. Lately she met up with this friend but I was not invited.

Calendargirl Thu 13-Feb-20 09:59:21

I’m not surprised Kircubbin, passing on a secret because ‘you thought they already knew’. Wouldn’t have been a secret then would it?
