I think everyone should have basic knowledge of table manners but really there are times when they don't matter. I sometimes put my elbows on the table during a family meal. My DGD has been instructed since a toddler. "Granny, elbows!" she announces. My mum told me that her grandfather used to watch everyone at the table (huge family) if anyone dared to put an elbow on the table he would bang his carving knife down next to their arm and shout "All joints on table must be cooked!"
Children in schools have so little time to eat at lunch I think manners just go out the window.
Mind you fish &chips just taste better with fingers!
The land is dry, and the people are ...stupid?
