Yes, a lot of people are upset by H and M's decision to leave, whilst still receiving tax payers' money; but, I think lots of people are also upset by the notion that Harry has been led by the nose by what appears to be an ambitious and calculating wife. It may very well be that it was Harry's idea to leave, we don't know; but according to what we read and hear from her acquaintances (and even her family), she does appear to be a dominant character who unfortunately has a ruthless, selfish streak. I hope for Harry's sake, that the stories surrounding her are 'fake news'.

So in the fullness of time, when Charles is King, the income from the Duchy of Cornwall will be allocated to William, as he will then be Prince of Wales. If Harry and Meghan are not ‘financially independent’ by then, I suppose Charles will be funding them still, so will that be from the Sovereign Grant and Charles’ own cash, as I don’t expect William will pay for them out of his money?

But they will still be in the public eye and gossip fodder so will be a commercial asset in lots of ways, Like David and Victoria, George and Amal. Harry was born into the royal gilded cage and even if he doesn’t have a title you can bet your life the papers will still call him Prince just like they called Diana Princess it even Lady Di when she wasn’t. Its not a matter of “allowing” anyone to trade off their fame - they are already famous and no amount of changing a title will alter that. You’ll all still be bitching about them if they launch a charity or write a book or whatever and it gets a mention.

Harry has got a considerable amount of independent dosh inherited from his mother plus loads of valuable jewellery, clothing etc that is worth more than most of us will see in our lifetimes.

I think she came in expecting to be able to shake the Royal Family up and in her terms make it more modern. She expected to be able to still speak out in a forceful way about the things she felt strongly about. When she found this couldn't happen or, as in the case of private jets, they were called hypocrites she has become unhappy.

It does seem as if a lot of this was pre-planned, some as far back as last March even before the baby was born and when she had been married less than a year.

I don't think she realised you can't just change the monarchy. It evolves, slowly or quickly depending on who the monarch is. Diana thought she could change things and look how that ended.

My personal feeling is that she has given Harry an ultimatum. My way or you're on your own.

I nipped over to Mumsnet last night and this is being discussed in great detail there too. One thing I read there is that the Q, as monarch, has legal custody of all the royal grandchildren. So I looked it up and apparently it is true. Therefore, if Archie was still in the UK, the monarch could actually seize custody over the parents. Maybe this is why Archie remains outside the UK until "the meeting" is concluded?
