Yes, they are bigger than usual. Normally I don’t notice them until I’m bitten, the little swines!

Maybe its the mild weather, although 'they' do keep saying we're due some snow.

Poppyred, yes, it’s really common here, in the South, to get them in summer, but never seen them in winter before.

Yes, of course, the constant rain is probably what it is, and the mildness.

Get yourself some Tea Tree Oil. It's dilutable (with a carrier oil such as almond) and is great for easing itchybites and repelling the little beggars.

I squashed 2 this morning and got blood stains on the wall, so they'd bitten someone! I live in northern Spain.
