Don't know about you but I'm getting so fed up with all of the doom mongers and nay sayers on here, I thought I'd start up a thread for the positive amongst us to list everything that we think is great about this country.

My thoughts - I love the beautiful British countryside and the fact that it looks different in every season. I love our friendly village pubs that serve good beer and good pub grub. I love our coastline, some of the most beautiful in the world.

Over to you guys - let's keep this thread going ........

crystaltips The UK will always be "in Europe" it is impossible to change its geographical position.

Hopefully just not one of the Federal Stares of the EU.

Tedber Thu 05-Dec-19 14:22:41

Think it is a shame people don’t stick to the original question ie what do you LIKE about living in Britain! We all know what we don’t like!!! Nobody smug or ignoring the problems. Just for once a light hearted thread accentuating the positives! Those who have contributed pointing out the negatives are totally missing the point. Thanks OP ... you tried!

Tedber it was always going to happen.....the sour pusses (can you still say that??) are everywhere.....it’s being so miserable as keeps ‘em going.

Chewbacca Thu 05-Dec-19 17:01:15

It's being so cheerful that keeps them going!

crystaltipps Thu 05-Dec-19 17:05:43

Grannygravy yes I know obviously we are a European country and that’s one of the things I like about it.

MerylStreep Thu 05-Dec-19 17:12:18

Crystaltipps
I think you'll find that Granygravey was referring to the geographical land mass known as a continent. Not that we are a European country.

Hetty58 Thu 05-Dec-19 17:37:00

I'm not at all miserable, usually annoyingly cheerful, in fact. Nevertheless, I want to know where a lot of you buy your rose-tinted glasses!

Callistemon Thu 05-Dec-19 17:45:57

You can have as many email addresses as you like but can only register with one IP address I think.

Who is moonlighting on this thread then?

I find it confusing enough remembering what I said myself without wondering what a doppelganger may have said.

Callistemon Thu 05-Dec-19 17:48:56

BUT it isn't nirvana. confused Where is?

Chewbacca the UK under Jeremy Corbyn et al!

Greeneyedgirl Thu 05-Dec-19 18:02:55

It probably isn't me but I will come clean and say I left GN for a while and then came back under different name - which lots of posters have done I'm sure.

Hetty58 Thu 05-Dec-19 18:12:53

Eloethan is quite correct in that many replies miss the point entirely.

So (allowing myself to digress too) Urmstongran is puzzled about why people would have 2, 3 or more different identities/usernames. It was common on another forum and used to 'agree' with each other, back each other up - and put other posters down. They often failed to change their writing style, though, (and happened to always be on the same topic at the same time) so were quite easily identified!

crystaltipps Thu 05-Dec-19 18:49:38

merylstreep of course we are a European country. We are part of the geographical continent ergo we are a European country.

Yes, Tedber, I agree.

God help us!

Callistemon Thu 05-Dec-19 19:22:40

Nirvana

Well, not France at the moment either!!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 05-Dec-19 19:27:53

If you have traveled to other countries, not just to “holiday resorts” and capitol cities you begin to realise how lucky we are to live in the UK.

Yes there are other fabulous countries/cities but UK always comes out top for us.

Mapleleaf Thu 05-Dec-19 22:20:35

I also agree, Tedber. I suppose it was inevitable that it would go off the point of the original post though, sadly.

crystaltipps Fri 06-Dec-19 07:33:22

Of course the U.K. “comes top” for you - you live here and it’s what you are used to.

Resurgam123 Fri 06-Dec-19 07:50:13

What planet are you on.

We are in a very serious situation with regard to the climate crisis.

Hetty58 Fri 06-Dec-19 08:45:01

Incredible, isn't it? Just close your mind and you can believe anything, it's said. Ignore anything too, it seems. So many living in their own little worlds!

JenniferEccles Fri 06-Dec-19 12:52:49

Well since we are continually being told that due to alleged climate change we are all doooomed, we may as well stick to the original thread and enjoy being here while we can!!

I guess our British sense of humour has been mentioned.
I love the fact that we are happy to laugh at ourselves.

Some nationalities take themselves very seriously don’t they?

inkcog Fri 06-Dec-19 19:00:16

Jennifer, have you by any chance had a lobotomy?

Chewbacca Fri 06-Dec-19 19:43:00

Wow inkcog, that was in poor taste. hmm

Barmeyoldbat Fri 06-Dec-19 19:49:09

I love our countryside, the change of season and the trees changing colour. I even love snow. I also love living in this country because of the way most of us help those in need but I am ashamed that we have a country with the need for food banks. Maybe we should start a thread what makes you ashamed of this country just to balance it up.
