I too find your reaction perfectly understandable and natural.
You answered the phone not expecting to have to discuss the fact that your husband had died. By now you have a perfect right to expect that anyone who does phone you knows you are a widow, and that former business associates of your husband know that he no longer runs a business even if they don't know why. I imagine they were informed of his death when it occurred, so they should not have had your number any more.
I know how much this sort of thing can hurt and I hope you are feeling a little better now. I would change my phone number to avoid any similar phone calls, if I were you.
