To(i)let or not to (i) let, that is the question.

We only have one bathroom so anytime workmen are here if they need the loo that's the one they have to use. I just make sure it's flushed and give a good clean when they've left. Usually they provide their own food and eat in their vans outside. I provide plenty of tea/coffees and biscuits to keep them going in-between. I've not heard of giving lunch money though or refreshments to delivery people.

I had felt a little sorry for the OP, thinking she might be upset by people laughing at her actions, but since her snippy (to say the least) responses belie that, clearly, I don’t need to.

Me? I am a total slut, very happy to let visiters, personal or commercial to use the loos in our house. I have never had a problem.

Mind you, recently, I have been reading a number of books about biome, bowel and skin and I am beginning to wonder whether my sluttish habits are the reason I have reached my mid-70s without any medical problems beyond the mild ones, that pre-date old age and with no need to take any medication

Nah, I'm happy to be very fastidious.
Immediately I get home I wash my hands before doing anything else. No sluttish behaviour from me and I too have remained healthy and without meds.
It works for all sorts.

I can't imagine the point of anybody making it up on here but I guess it takes all sorts. My memory is far too shot to remember lies!

I am not keen on workmen using my loo although I accept that they have to, but they rarely wash their hands.

One time I left a decorator here and went out, and when I came back, I found him sitting on the toilet with his trousers round his ankles and the door wide open, and a horrible smell wafting over the house.

He didn't move, just said "You're back early!" and finished pooing!

He had 2 more days of decorating to finish off and I was counting the minutes

Calendar girl....I’ve just done the same as you ...bathroom ripped out and shower room installed. Didn’t want to as I love a bath particularly when my arthritis is bad. But husband cannot get Into bath to use the overhead shower! I found it politic to hire a ‘portaloo’ for10 days....for our own benefit as well as for our two workmen who fitted our new bathroom. It was installed in back garden 6 feet from back door. They are really excellent now! Think about it! I believe if you have it over the week the suppliers come out and thoroughly clean and re-stock. They were so good .

ReadyMeals it would be great if all towns and cities did something to restore public toilets, wouldn’t it?
We don’t always want to have to buy something in a cafe in order to use the loo, or trail through a big dept store looking for one.

I am surprised to find anyone on this thread who is ‘happy’ to let any person use their loo ( other than visiting friends) sometimes we have to but that is ‘needs must’ only.
I once read that Kenneth Williams wouldn't even allow good friends to use his loo....now that’s going a bit far!

If you trust someone to let themselves in and out of your house and with the maintenance (and more) of your very valuable property why wouldn’t you be happy to let them go to your loo? Unless they left it in an absolute state - and then you’d have a conversation with them surely - what’s the big deal?

I certainly would not mind workmen using my facilities if they were spending many hours working inside/outside my premises. I make copious cups of tea/ coffee throughout the day with biscuits and a cold drink is offered if summer but would not dream of giving them lunch money or food at lunchtime - surely they’re supposed to bring a packed lunch. I usually have no reason to complain about any hygiene issues, my workmen are reliable and responsible folk.

Does anybody else do what I do (and which fools no-one)
I stride purposefully through the front of whichever bar/restaurant etc looking around as if I am meeting someone at a table, then I switch to “I am a customer here and looking for the loo” mode.
Once done, I stride out again as if I had just finished my meal or my drink.
How much better it is in Germany where you pay 25 or 50c but loos are open to anybody and always scrupulously clean and nice.

Some people might be happy to leave maintenance or workmen in their homes whilst they are out or indeed to let themselves in and out.
I am not one of that number.
Even my children do not have keys to my home and I do not have keys to theirs.

If you really don't want them using your loo hire one of the porta loos you can place in your garden.
Don't forget though they are someones hubby/dad not some sort of alien.
Unsure why you're giving them lunch money mine usually bring pack up. I'd only provide tea/coffee and biscuits. (Chocolate ones if they're tidy and doing a good job)

Same here. I’ve known mine for many years and trust them implicitly. Those of us who work don’t have the option of staying put in the house for days or weeks on end to watch for errant wee marks.

Sometimes you have to leave them though. . We were having a new kitchen fitted some years ago and due to fly to Glasgow at sparrow fart(5 am) for a family funeral. Not only did the men continue to work on their own but looked after and fed my dog of the time . We got back about 10 that night.
Actually as I was still working in those days they were in the house without me for a couple of months (2 bathrooms, a new hot water tank, new boiler, new kitchen and utility room. )
I believe they sat in the garage for their lunch ( there was nowhere else!) and everything was left clean and tidy.
