It's so sad when special people disappear. Any news on the recently departed?

BlueBelle Sun 17-Nov-19 15:20:55

I tend to agree with you rafia about the Good morning thread I was a long time ago slapped on the wrist about Mick starting it I just thought he was an early riser I didn’t realise he was the only one that could start it until that moment and maybe someone can explain to me why ‘we are all protective of Mick’ Is he unwell ? I ve made sure I never broke the unseen rules since and rarely look at that thread now I can take a hint ?

Megs36 Sun 17-Nov-19 15:38:22

Bluebelle I rest my case. ??

kittylester Sun 17-Nov-19 16:04:57

Mick came to gransnet with a few other people from another 'forum' when it was shut down. He had always started A Good Morning thread there and suggested he did the same here - I think! Please put me right old-timers if that's not the case.

SOOP's Kitchen is a similar 'special' place. It's a long standing convention. As I said previously, it's how we like to do it.

By all means start your own Good Morning threads but dont be surprised if most people ignore you and go for Mick's.

And, why not visit the thread with an open mind - you might like it!

Calendargirl Sun 17-Nov-19 16:17:16

I’ve never looked at SOOP’s kitchen, as it seemed such an odd thread title.
Do the initials stand for something significant?
Also never looked at Good Morning one as it sounded a bit like Housewife’s Choice or the Jimmy Young Show, a bit dated somehow, but I shall make a point of checking them both out.

This is becoming a “thread about a thread” so will no doubt be for the chop any minute now , but I remember when Mick had his computer problems - however I have NO recollection of you or anybody else being “slapped down” confused

Gonegirl Sun 17-Nov-19 16:43:11

I don't go in soop's kitchen. ?

grapefruitpip Sun 17-Nov-19 16:59:46

I might start Ploops kitchen.

kittylester Sun 17-Nov-19 17:04:04

Sounds like a good idea!

Oldandverygrey Sun 17-Nov-19 17:22:51

I have been in the Good Morning thread, found it very cliquey, never tried soops kitchen I find the title a little odd.

Oopsminty Sun 17-Nov-19 17:26:35

I did pop into the Good Morning thread once. I was excited about going to see my brand new second granddaughter.

Everyone was very nice but it's very obvious it would take a lot of time and effort to get to 'know' everyone as well as the regulars seem to.

Never been in Soops Kitchen.

Urmstongran Sun 17-Nov-19 17:34:33

Everyone was very nice

There you go oopsminty you could have bedded in from there. I posted for ages before I felt ‘one of the gang’ but I don’t give up easily. ‘You WILL like me ...!!’
?

Marydoll Sun 17-Nov-19 17:38:45

This thread and some of the comments posted, has got me thinking about the GM thread.
I have never been part of a clique before and if that is how it comes across to some posters, then my sincerest apologies to those who feel that.
I was Marydoll nae pals at school, so I know what it is like to feel excluded! I just see it as a gentle, warm thread with no animosity and digs at posters.

I was once the new girl on the thread, but was given a warm welcome at a very low point in my life.
You only get to know people by reading the whole thread and then actually posting on it.
It doesn't happen overnight.
So if you have been put off, please give it another go.

It may seem, housewifey, and bland to some, but it suits us.

Oopsminty Sun 17-Nov-19 17:39:48

I could have, Urmstongran!

You made me smile.

I guess I am just not in here often enough.

Maybe someone could start a Good Evening thread!

Megs36 Sun 17-Nov-19 17:45:21

One of the gang??Back to school ?‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍?

annep1 Sun 17-Nov-19 18:39:20

Anepp Posters are not silly to complain if they see something they disagree with. Gransnet is for everyone. If someone wants to start a thread they can. That comment was patronising.

Exactly rafichagran. If someone else wants to start a Good Morning thread no one should tell them they can't because it belongs to Michael.
And I am entitled to think something is silly.

Pantglas2 Sun 17-Nov-19 18:53:29

As a relative newcomer (May) to GN I don’t feel left out or cliquey - I comment/congratulate or commiserate as I like on the Good Morning thread.

I don’t remember everyone’s detailed lifestyle or current problems but some I may have something in common with them. Like Urmstongran I spend a lot of time in Spain, like Anniebach I’m Welsh, like others I’m retired and I have a husband with health problems like Gillybob.

Occasionally someone will comment on something in my post but I don’t take offence if no one does - let’s face it there are around 50-70 posting on that thread each day and none of us has the time to comment on each and every post!

Give it another go folks - it really is the kindest place and we all need some of that in our lives don’t we?

annep1 Sun 17-Nov-19 18:57:26

And , annepl, it's a bit rude joining a long standing 'group' without being polite enough to find out how things operate!
Are you for real kittylester We're talking about a GM thread. Lol.
Perhaps you should have an application form and vet potential members of your exclusive "group".

TerriBull Sun 17-Nov-19 19:50:57

POGS hasn't been around for a while, I miss her posts.

I guess like everyone, individual GN members have things going on in their lives that preoccupy them and take precedence over posting.

Hope everything is okay with those already mentioned.

NanKate Sun 17-Nov-19 19:51:27

The GM thread in my opinion is one of the most friendly and non clique type thread. I have made some virtual friends and met some of the contributors. I agree with Kitty that it has become a tradition for Mick to start the thread.

I would be very sad if Mick read this thread and felt he was the centre of this squabble. Why can’t we big hearted enough to call it a day and keep the status quo?

moggie57 Sun 17-Nov-19 19:58:17

graperuitpip... know any one recently deceased with a purple cardigan?

rafichagran Sun 17-Nov-19 20:09:33

Annep Sorry if I misunderstood what you said.

Callistemon Sun 17-Nov-19 21:28:59

grapefruitpip if you want to start Ploop's Kitchen you will have to change your username (again!) to Ploop.
However, you may not want to plagiarism, so you could call it "Ploop's Sitting Room" or similar.

Good luck.

Callistemon Sun 17-Nov-19 21:30:04

Plagiarise

Stop autocorrecting!

Callistemon Sun 17-Nov-19 21:33:34

annep and others as it's confusing for two threads to have the same name, perhaps starting a Hello or similar thread would be in order each day if another poster wished to do that?

Callistemon Sun 17-Nov-19 21:35:16

But Mick is usually up very early anyway (earlier than me usually).
