Grey miserable weather days, how do you occupy yourself if you are the only one at home, all day?

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 12:26:21

bbbface

not a good attitude.....zero understanding of another person

On my own being a widower and had 3 strokes and copd, takes me ages to get going in morning, shower have bit breakfast then tackle ironing Washing, by then so tired just sit on internet or watch tv, odd days go and get food don’t realy see anybody till weekend.

Mapleleaf Thu 17-Oct-19 12:11:44

But Bbface, isn't the other poster entitled to do these things at a slower pace. Like many others, she will probably have done her fair share of bringing up a family, rushing off to work and fitting in all the things she's listed around that. Now, she is probably retired and so has the time to pace these things, as I hope you will, one day. ? People shouldn't be guilt tripped into feeling that because they no longer rush around trying to fit things around work and family ( though I appreciate many GN's have to do just that), they need to find lots of things to fill every bit of their day at 100 miles an hour and if they don't there must be something wrong with them and that they are time wasters. How insulting is that?

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 11:55:17

Why were you entering Gransnet competitions?!!!

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 11:54:26

I could direct you to the door Bbbbbface

EllanVannin Thu 17-Oct-19 11:46:25

Bbbface, wait until you're 79 ! I don't do anything at a snail's pace and if you've only got 2 children to see to it's not exactly grafting is it ??
I brought 4 children up and worked so why the acid remark ?

Hi craftyone, I am also a widow of many years at home alone most days. I walk every day unless it is thunder or fog, waterproofs and poles as live in muddy area. I work in greenhouse any weather, I overwinter a lot of plants so always something to tidy up or work in garage painting bits and pieces. Also read, sew and knit, I like a quiet house so rarely watch tv or listen to radio. In the winter I like to get out in the evenings, so belong to various singing and circle dancing groups, or go to films in various village halls. For some reason I am never at a loss for jobs. I love living alone in a quiet and peaceful home.

Health means stuck at home a lot. but there's always something to do.
A little time on gransnet, I wish I could contribute more but my brain gets tired. I used to love debates.
Watch neighbours and then Countdown most days.
Play woodblock on phone (again short time)
Reading - but I do that more often in bed.
i newspaper puzzles
Play tin whistle
When I have more energy, I will do a bit of tidying drawers etc.
Favourite things when I have good energy is acrylic painting, embroidery or baking.
I have got used to being at home a lot and quite enjoy it. Although I look forward to art classes, and coffee and chat.

I need more time, I walk my dog a minimum of an hour a day, sew I am making a duffel coat and Christmas decorations, knit for charity, belong to the U3A and the many activities that brings, never mind family, friends the list goes on, just finished decorating. I am 68.

BusterTank Thu 17-Oct-19 11:24:23

Housework , competions on line , then in the evening a bit of television .

Annaram1 Thu 17-Oct-19 11:15:45

I am writing my second book and this may take me up to 2 hours in the morning.
Check emails and read Gransnet
You must all have very tidy cupboards! And as all your spare stuff goes to charity shops you probably don't have much left....

henetha Thu 17-Oct-19 11:10:17

I'm alone a lot, but luckily am interested in all sorts of things.
I do the usual stuff, reading, tv, pc, etc. But I also love photography and am always trying to get decent photos of nature. I walk a little each day, and do exercises at home to music every day. I love days out, mooching around shops or walking along sea-fronts, or on Dartmoor. And I go to the cinema whenever there is a good film on.
I socialise with friends once a week. And I see family about once a week.
I have to keep occupied to fight off depression. Mostly I succeed. The secret is to try and stay interested in the world around us, not just become introspective, I think.

Anthea1948 Thu 17-Oct-19 11:09:29

I spend a lot of time on the internet, mainly playing games. I write, I read, I listen to music or watch TV. I see friends or chat to them or family online (and occasionally the old fashioned way - on the telephone).

Bbbface Thu 17-Oct-19 11:06:22

@Gonegirl

I am a single working mother of a 9 and 6 year old and found myself on gransnet because I entered a competition!

So my point was that the list of activities (clean cat bowl) takes the poster until lunchtime because of a slow pace rather than bona fide busy!

Theoddbird Thu 17-Oct-19 11:05:08

I work full time but when I do have a day at home I work on my hand pieced quilt...2000 pieces.

jenni123 Thu 17-Oct-19 11:03:00

I'm almost housebound so most time is home alone. I use internet chat twice a day on Skype to my sister, we both play games online. I email, shop online. Watch daytime TV, read. I have diamond art kits, adult dot to dot book courtesy my sister, they are a nightmare. I read a lot. Most days find something to do. Days I'm really unwell I lie on sofa and watch tv.

Hello there I am new here.
Recently I have discovered the Open University Free Courses site called Openlearn. There are all sorts of things on there for free and many courses you can get a certificate of participation.

You can also join the community on there if you wish and talk to other students. I haven't done this yet as I am still practising. )

Appreciate this thread, thank you for starting it.
In a while perhaps I might start a new thread about OU courses for those who might be interested.
Keeps the old brain moving eh (or rather, less of the 'old' eh

I would be so cool in my grandson's eyes if I could master Fortnite. envy

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 10:54:50

What's RTE? I bet I haven't got it. hmm

helenmabr Thu 17-Oct-19 10:54:46

Oopsminty
You play fort nite, brilliant! I play assassins creed, love it! Any other grand net computer games players out there?

Ydoc Thu 17-Oct-19 10:54:40

I know! I have one like that. He never goes out and does absolutely nothing everyday. Consequently I HAVEto go out every day because I can't be around such lazyness. So whatever the weather I'm off, I don't drive so can be cold, use trains often.

inishowen Thu 17-Oct-19 10:53:36

What's wrong with daytime TV? I watch Money for Nothing and a magazine programme on RTE which starts at 3.30 PM. It's full of chat, cooking, fashion and book reviews. I knit while watching. I'm knitting for charity so feel good about it.

TrendyNannie6 Thu 17-Oct-19 10:52:05
