No news from Charleygirl for a couple of days, I hope she’s ok and that it’s just that her WiFi has “gone down”.

Lins1066 Thu 17-Oct-19 23:18:31

It's late but I wanted to update you and the many who wished me well today. I had a phone call from the Consultant's secretary to say that he didn't have a clinic today ( how could you get that wrong? ) but to come to the hospital as he had made arrangements for the xray. I then saw another doctor on a ward who fitted me with a back brace. He told me that the xray showed that I have 2 fractured vertebrae.
So a mixed day, I am grateful to the young doctor but disappointed not to see the Consultant as I had lots of questions. I will have to ring up tomorrow to try and get an appointment.
The last 6 weeks have been very isolating and I am grateful to the Kitchen for your concern and good wishes.

Susan56 your photo is one to treasure.
I am mindful of all those with worries and health problems.
TOYA ?
PS Who ate all the cake? Not a crumb left and believe me I did look.

dragonfly46 Thu 17-Oct-19 23:23:50

Goodness Lins that sounds very painful. I hope they can treat you. I am sorry if I missed it but did you have a fall?

Lovely heartwarming photo Susan.

Bellanonna Thu 17-Oct-19 23:30:52

I’m so sorry, too Lins, I can’t always keep up with news. It does indeed sound very painful. What is the next step?

Marydoll Fri 18-Oct-19 00:12:13

Lins, I am so sorry to hear your news. I know exactly how you are feeling.
Twelve years ago I fell down icy stairs on Christmas Day and went about my daily business for six months, not knowing I had two fractured vertebrae.
The pain was horrendous and extremely debillitating. Every time I moved, the bones moved.
What you say about the experience being isolating is spot on. Trying to get someone to understand how bad it was, was so stressful.
I was fortunate (by a fluke) to eventually become part of an osteoporosis trial and had verteboplasty on my spine, (cement injected in to hold it together).
I hope and pray that you find some relief from this awful pain and your consultant can find a way to help and support you.
Unless you have experienced it, you cannot imagine what it is like. flowers

annsixty Fri 18-Oct-19 07:52:05

So sorry to hear of all the pain and other ailments being endured by our lovely kitcheners.
I am in constant low level pain myself so can try to understand.
I am waiting for a Dexa Scan to check my osteoporosis.
Much room swapping on going on here to ensure my GD is settling in, it isn't easy.
We have someone coming to give a quote for a new carpet tomorrow, something I wouldn't have bothered with, however...
A very wet cat has just jumped on my bed so it must be raining, it was a nice day yesterday for a change.
I must make a move , so much to do and I can only work in half hour bursts before having to sit down.
I hate getting old but don't relish the alternative.
Actually correction there, I don't like BEING so old.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 18-Oct-19 08:02:49

Good morning kitcheners.
Lins I hope the backbrace eases your pain.

Annsixty osteoporosis is a "buggeration".

Lots of lovely photos on here, will try to catch up later.

Is anyone in contact with gillybob, she hasn't posted since Monday and Mr.gillybob was very poorly after his emergency operation?

TOYA

Susan56 Fri 18-Oct-19 08:40:56

soop, glad that yesterday went well journey wise and that you are safely back home.
Panache,I am hoping for a speedy conclusion to your house sale.It is such a stressful time anyway but you really don’t need the additional solicitors visits at a time when you need to be looking after yourselves.Could the solicitor do a home visit?
Lins, you must be so relieved to be having treatment for your back, hopefully this is the start of recovery and less pain foryou.
Well I am waiting for 9.00am to phone the hospital. My husband is scheduled for surgery on 29th and we came home to a message asking us to ring them about his admission date.He has been waiting for this surgery since March so I hope there isn’t going to be another long wait.
Sending love to all who are unwell or suffering buggerations of anykind?TOYA

Pittcity Fri 18-Oct-19 08:42:00

There is a message from Gillybob on the Good Morning thread.

Bellanonna Fri 18-Oct-19 09:06:02

Thank you pittcity. I had no idea Gilly’s husband was in hospital and so unwell. What a dreadful time for her. I don’t think she comes into the Kitchen but I am thinking of her and praying for them both, .

grannyqueenie Fri 18-Oct-19 09:15:14

Tiptoeing in case I wake anyone up, for no good reason at all I am wide awake and just cannot get to sleep. Also for no good reason at all I seem not to have managed to pop into the now not so new kitchen, so here I am.

I hope you’re all safely tucked up in bed and sound asleep, especially all those with health issues or family worries, there seems a lot of it about these days. There are also lots of little ones to admire, heartwarming photos to bring a smile and I do like those fungi photos too, greyduster

Lins your back problem sounds terribly painful, I hope you can get to speak to someone asap and get some relief. Thinking too of soop and her lovely man, travelling such distances for medical appointments must be so tiring. Take good care of yourself lovely lady, we all worry that you do too much. panache, you're another we all worry about, hope the house sale picks up speed and cones to completion with no further nitpicking from the buyers. corner it sounds like life has been unsettled for you lately, I hope service remains “normal“ for the foreseeable future.

We had my sil, well she still feels like my sil though she hasn’t been married to the old boys brother for over 30 years! We go back a long way, it was a lovely weekend of non stop chatter and lots of laughter too. It’s taken me the rest of the week to recover! A quieter weekend coming up, though have 2 giddy gds coming for a sleepover on Saturday, at 10 and 12 they're no bother to have, Then some friends are coming to stay towards the end of the week. I may need to do a spot of cleaning and meal planning as another set of friends are coming straight after them. It all seemed a good idea at the time of arranging it, now I’m not so sure!

Well autumn is well and truly here. When I came back from a shopping trip today and looked out the kitchen window to the garden the sun was just catching the last leaf on my lovely acer. Well, it would be rude not to leave the photo... [ smile]
Sorry to all I’ve omitted to mention, as always toya

grannyqueenie Fri 18-Oct-19 09:20:18

Morning all! Message was written in the wee sma’ hours but for some reason the photo didn’t attach, nor did the message post.. ours is not to reason why! Have good day, kitchen folk, whatever it holds for you x

Feelingmyage55 Fri 18-Oct-19 09:24:14

Good morning all. I had intended to plant some spring bulbs but it is raining so am putting it off, along with the rest of the list of “things that should have been done by now”. I got a good report from the doctor this week for a change so perhaps a curry tonight.
annsixty. It sounds as if you are working very hard looking after your son and GD. I hope they are chipping in with the heavy chores or ...... with contribution, what about a cleaner once a fortnight to take the load off you? I must say you sound as if their company is doing you good.
Maybe I should go and do some baking if it is too wr to garden? ?
Thinking of you all and hope that you have a good weekend.

Feelingmyage55 Fri 18-Oct-19 09:26:14

Lins1066 Fri 18-Oct-19 12:44:46

Afternoon everyone. Oh gosh what would I do without the support and advice on this thread.
No I didn't have a fall dragonfly, I've had pain for a while - hopping on one leg for four months while my foot was in plaster earlier this year didn't help - and then I only sat on the stairs to cut my toenails, very innocuous but that seems to have been the last straw.
DH rang the Consultant's secretary this morning, she is seeing him on Tuesday and will ask about when he wants to see me. She is making arrangements for me to have a DXA bone density scan.
Marydoll your experience sounds so similar to mine. I will ask the Consultant about the verteboplasty when I see him, thank you.

We have had thunder and lightening with heavy rain this morning. Hope the weather improves, we need to get a flat roof fixed. The saying ' it never rains but it pours' comes to mind.

soop Fri 18-Oct-19 14:47:02

A late-ish sunny good afternoon to all our lovely lot.

What indeed would any of us do without the super support given by so many understanding Kitcheners. Bless you all. flowers

Lins I also wish to thank Marydoll for sharing her personal experience with you. You will be well versed when you next see the consultant. I send you a gentle healing hug. smile

Panache All this dilly-dallying concerning the finalising of the house sale is a disgrace. Do these people have nothing better to do? You are a patient soul. I am willing completion along with every fibre of my being. Us lot may need to take to the streets with calls of..."we want this dithering to end...when do we want it? NOW!

granniequeenie Your photograph has a touch of magic about it. Beautiful! Nature is remarkable.

Susan I shall share my moist carrot cake with you. Half each. Less calories per portion. wink

ann Cats do whatsoever they please. I am happy that you have company. A younger person has the ability to sometimes make us forget that we are aged. I agree...I do not like being less sprightly and with it and, from time to time, I do get utterly frustrated with myself.

I have another UTI. Dropped a wee sample into the surgery as we went to Campbeltown. Arrived home to find two messages on the answer phone. More anti bio's! hmm

Bellanonna Fri 18-Oct-19 16:10:11

Oh no, soop, what a blooming pain. Hope you get over it quickly.

soop Fri 18-Oct-19 16:28:38

Hello Bellanonna and thank you. The pain started yesterday as we were motoring to Oban. This morning I knew that I had an infection. MacSporran has kindly picked up the Nitrofurantoin. It's the umpteenth time this year alone that I've taken a full course.

Susan56 Fri 18-Oct-19 16:34:40

Thank you soop?we have had a call from the hospital in the last half hour.My husbands surgery has only been delayed by three days so not too bad, hopefully no more delays??
Hope the antibiotics do the trick quickly Soop.
TOYA

annsixty Fri 18-Oct-19 16:35:08

After having a moan this morning I got off my rear and did something about it.
I rang the surgery and was astonished to be offered an appt with a nurse practitioner at 11am.
She has advised me to take cocodomol 4 times a day, and has made me an appt with the practice physio.
This is for Nov the 6th, he will decide if I need a referral to an Orthopaedic surgeon.
Apparently when I last had an x-ray over 2 years ago I had medium grade osteoarthritis in my right knee, early onset in my hip, degenerative changes in my lumbar region and spondylitis in my spine.
This was the first time I had heard about the spine.
As she said ,a lot could have happened in that time and of course lifting my H and caring for him did not help.
I didn’t feel such a wimp when I had been.
The Dexa scan has a waiting list of 6 weeks before even being offered an appt.
Sometime next year probably.

annsixty Fri 18-Oct-19 16:37:05

Just read your post soop and Susan’s
Hope all goes well for you both.

soop Fri 18-Oct-19 17:33:04

Susan Having a reassuring phone call from the hospital, counts for a lot. Your husband is in our thoughts. Please give him a gentle (hug) from me.

ann The x-ray that was done two years ago may well be out of date. Joints can deteriorate substantially in as long. Good for you...go ahead, get yourself seen by an expert. Getting your pain under control will help to raise your spirits.

I'm logging off until tomorrow. In the meantime, as always, TOYA. Try to relax and enjoy the start of the weekend.

smile moon

Susan56 Fri 18-Oct-19 18:10:59

Thank you Soop and Ann.
Ann,am glad you are getting some treatment for your pain and hope you don’t have to wait too long for a scan and consultants appointment???

Bellanonna Fri 18-Oct-19 19:52:28

Charleygirl has asked me to say she is having WiFi problems and hopes to be back soon!

Doodle Fri 18-Oct-19 20:56:23

I am popping in and reading all but bit busy at the moment. Just wanted to say sorry lins about your back. Hope the brace helps and you get to see the constant soon.
ann a new carpet will be a nice touch for your GD.
susan glad your DHs op was only postponed for 3 days, especially when he has been waiting so long.
Hope you have a lovely time with your DGDs Grannyq
soop sorry to hear about yet another UTI. That is so annoying. Glad you and McSporran are back home safely.
Hello everyone else. TOYA ?
