Then there are people who scramble to tell all mutual friends "their side" and want everyone to hate their ex as much as they do!

Di behaved like the latter... but on a huge public scale!

My impression was that she was a bit of a "house devil street angel"

I think the public warmed to Diana precisely because of her issues.

She didn't walk around like a stuffed shirt; she got close to people and held their hands.

She was a flawed, imperfect human, just the same as the rest of us (including the rest of the royals) and it showed.

I still think that D was responsible for increasing the dwindling popularity of the stuffy rf notanan . She was the fairytale princess that had not previously existed for that generation. After it became apparent that C had been playing around with his (ex? or was it always ongoing??) lover then D was seen as a victim (which I suppose she was ) and the public took her side . None of us (and I mean none of us) really know what was said or what went on do we ? I quite liked Diana ( obviously I didn’t know her personally) . I think she was a breath of fresh air and wasn’t afraid to visit/promote/ help charities that previous generations of royals would have avoided (?such as AIDS victims etc) . I also liked her style and envied her elegance and beauty too. She cuddled her children ( like a normal mum) instead of the horrible “stiff upper lip....one must not be seen to love ones children....” approach that the royals had been used to .

I dunno really Annie If I thought my almost husbands lover was sat there maybe I would yes.

I think the Diana of the early days was completely different from who she turned into. Sounds like she was pretty mentally unwell at one point. She had to harden up and make the most of her advantages which were that the public and the media liked her. The RF must have been irritated by that.

I don’t believe Diana set out to upstage the royals at all.
She naturally became hugely popular because of her warm personality which shone out from her.

Yes she used the media in the latter stages of her marriage but she was perfectly entitled to feel aggrieved about the third person in the marriage.

Apparently (I won't state it as fact because I don't know, any more than anyone else here knows their 'facts') Charles was quite smitten with Diana at first.

It was only after living together and seeing all her issues that the rot set in.

He found her childish and didn't understand her emotional outbursts and drama seeking ways.

Diana set out to increase diana's popularity and one of the ways she did that was creating polarity. Were you on Di's side ir the stuffy old queens side sort if thing.

She really wasnt that innocent though young. She was privilidged and ambitous! And lashed out at anyone who didnt unquestioningly flatter her

If the lover of the man I was about to marry was at my wedding I would look for her In the crowd too , not that she would’ve been invited, but I doubt Diana has much say in that anyway.

Nobody, least of all Charles, pretended to Di that it was a love match! They barely met during their engagement it was always a business deal. It was a "job" and she wanted that job title!

Although none of us know what really happened in the marriage, I think Charles went into it wanting it to work, but very soon it was patently obvious they had nothing in common except a shared love for their children.

The age difference, their totally different interests, just their whole approach to life, - with hindsight, absolutely doomed.

I honestly think Camilla is his soul mate, and has been so good for him. The way William and Harry are with her shows that they think so too. At least, that is how it appears to me anyway.

I think the PR worked better for Diana ,she was first introduced to the world as an "ordinary" nursery nurse and to this day I have relatives who still believe that .Thats was the main reason a lot of folk got on her side.She was "one of us" only she wasn't .As it became clear in the years that followed she came from a very privileged background and was on intimate terms with the family she married into.Sadly she had a very inflated view of herself and her importance and worked the PR machine to suit herself .She thought she was infallible and that the public would always be on her side.Her popularity was waning before she died ...and no it wasn't the paps that killed her ..it was soley the lack of seatbelt .On that point I agree withAnnie

I remember reading that she found cuff links belonging to Charles with two intertwined Cs. This was on their honeymoon!

Other than the fact that they all knew each other, dated each other and were each other god parents etc. much like a large group of friends. The problem was time was running out for Charlie to do his duty and produce an heir and Diana (being quite a lot younger) probably wouldn't have been his first choice (or even second, third or fourth) but she fitted the bill. Poor girl.

Diana lived at Sandringham, holidayed at Balmoral with the Windsors. The Spencers were so close to the Windsors the
Queen went to the wedding of Diana’s parents, she is Godmother to Charles Spencer .

Diana’s sister did have a relationship with Charles, it ended when she spoke to the press.

All the media spoke of Charles couldn’t marry Camilla because she wasn’t a virgin and it was not true. They didn’t want to marry, he went in the Navy and she fell for Andrew
Parker Bowles. Anne had dated Parker Bowles, he is Godfather
to Zara.

The difference between Meghan and Diana was that the great British public liked her and they don't like Meghan.
I think, what we all do, that Diana had a rotten time of it with the Royal family. She had to learn to deal with media interest and stress. She came to it as an innocent not very bright girl who believed in love. Very sad to see how she was treated.
Meghan has been publicity hungry for years as part of her job as an actress. Negative publicity must have come a a big blow to her ego.
They should move to the US where she can be treated as the princess she thinks she is.

I think (and again it is only my opinion) that she was hand picked/chosen and used to produce an heir and pc had no intention of loving her (whatever love means?) .

Gonegirl, Diana , might have had the attributes you mention,but like everyone else that was just part of her, there were other dimensions to her personality.
Also she & her family were part of the Royal circle , they all knew so much about each other & their families for years prior to their relationship, I believe PC was her sister’s boyfriend for awhile .

He didn’t say ‘what is love ‘, he said ‘what ever in love means ‘

we do not know Camilla was always present in the marriage, we only know what Diana said.
