Thank you Maddy I accept my criticism of Diana seems harsh but I admit I find what the media claimed irritating.

I don’t quote what the media claimed, i do quote what Diana
herself said. And i do look at all sides in that tragic time.

Some have no idea that when someone has mental health problems the family suffer too.

Diana was not an angel, she admitted as much. I suppose she was looking for affection but it’s never the way to find it, it’s obviously not really true affection if it’s found in the arms of another woman’s husband.

Annie, you are absolutely right, those who are close to those who are suffering mental illness suffer terribly. Everyone suffers, it’s a truly horrible situation to be in.

I’m sorry Sparklefizz, but I have always found Anniebach to be a caring and sympathetic Gransnetter. I certainly don’t agree that she has no empathy or understanding, but the way she views Diana is perfectly valid. We are all allowed our own opinions without being told we have no empathy or understanding.
For myself, I liked Diana, but obviously she had many difficulties, having had a difficult childhood (although there seems no doubt that her father loved her and her siblings, and I remember well how proud he looked as he walked her down the aisle. I also remember her distress at his early death.) She then went on to make a difficult marriage, and she had to find her way in a family that was not known for outward shows of affection. I am certain that she modernised the royal family and I believe Catherine is following in her footsteps. I don’t think Meghan is though as I feel she comes across as fake. Catherine seems genuine. I believe Meghan should put her house in order with regard to her father, then the British public may warm to her.

No one knows of any affairs Camilla allegedly had, she has never written a book or given a tv interview.

a woman who has said publicly’there were three in her marriage’ had no problem in being the third in other women’s
marriages, it seems it is acceptable by some posting here, it

For some everything Diana claimed was truth, the hurt she caused is excused.

Why is affairs with married men accepted because it was Diana ‘looking for love’, if a poster started a thread that they were devastated that her husband was having an affair would
anyone say the woman in the affair was ‘looking for love’.

Diana was not 19 when she had all those affairs.

According to Annie, Diana will always be to blame for everything ... even World War 2, eh Annie? She has posted on here so many times to point the finger at Diana and has no empathy or understanding of her at all. Usually mothers of daughters can remember either themselves or their daughter at that age, and put themselves in Diana's place, but it takes sensitivity to do that.

Sure, Diana was far from perfect but I think that's why she was so popular. People could relate to her. Look at the RF and celebs now, all trying to jump on the mental health bandwagon. Everyone wants to look vulnerable these days!

It's the old-fashioned way to always blame the woman ... or in Diana's case, the teenager ... and not the man.

Camilla had been round the block a few times and had a "romantic past" with a number of previous lovers so was not reckoned to be the right person for Charles at all, whereas Diana was a virgin. Of course, Charles had had a number of sexual partners too, but in some people's eyes that is ok. I remember reading at the time that Diana had to be medically examined to confirm virginity because that was the way things had been done for centuries. Not sure how true that is, and definitely not done now.

Anyway, yes Diana had lovers later on, and as someone pointed out, it takes two and as those who were married did not have to comply.

Somehow, Annie can reconcile that Camilla had plenty of lovers including, of course, the most famous affair of all with a married man, and still say that she will make an ideal consort for Charles. Yet Diana, who was much younger, only a girl of 19 who had had an unhappy childhood and not felt loved, and perhaps looked for love and to be parented, is to blame for everything. We are all the products of our childhood. I think Charles and Diana were both unconsciously "looking for mummy". I see the same with Harry.
