Looks like the Daily Mail is being sued by them regarding a private letter from the Duchess to her estranged father.

Who is behind the letter being shown to the paper? An unhappy member of their staff? Or Mr. Markle maybe?

I think what these articles do is show that you're better to err on the side of caution by not passing comment on someone's skin colour unless you know that person very well.

Hear hear Eglantine ??????
Also notanan....you have got the situation spot on.

Royals need to be gracious to the press now and then, and why not share the positives. They knew a lot of people would want to see baby Archie, and refusing to show him was a mistake. All other royal mothers, including Diana, were happy enough to show off their new baby ( what mother doesn’t?)

Eglantine21 Fri 04-Oct-19 08:09:01

And Suziewoozie neither can they speak for for me in the way that those articles do.

If an individual wants to write as an individual that they don’t want people to comment on their heritage that’s fine.

But those articles were written as if the writers views represented all women of mixed heritage.

She didn’t have that right.

Well they chose to live the Royal life in England instead of locking themselves away with fellow A listers in LA

Then they refuse to give the press any "good news" about them (e.g. Christening). The press are kinder to Kate because she regularly "throws them a bone" (e.g. pics of kids she has taken herself, getting involved in sports on visits to charities = fun action shots for the press) H&M are people of interest but offer nothing POSITIVE so press finds other things to say.

H is full of rage and hypocricy/contradiction. History IS repeating itself but HE is the Diana character: wants public approval more than most other royals then tantrums at press attention! Cant have both!

Don’t think Meghan refused to curtsey to the Queen at her wedding, I believe the tv camera angle just didn’t show it properly. She is guilty of various faux pas, but not that.

Callistemon Fri 04-Oct-19 02:46:20

Davidhs Princess Anne carried out 518 public duties over the last year- that is hardly retiring from public life.

True, she did take some time off for her birthday but, at 69, perhaps she did deserve a break.

suziewoozie Fri 04-Oct-19 00:44:53

Maybe she thinks that if the MoS aren’t brought to book over this letter, then more will follow. newnanny you are quite right - a letter sent to you belongs to you and you can do what you want with it - sell it, give it away, throw it away. What you can’t do under copyright is publish it nor can anyone else you give/sell it to without the permission of the person who wrote it.

MissAdventure Fri 04-Oct-19 00:36:51

I'm sure she would settle for just sympathy at this juncture..

newnanny Fri 04-Oct-19 00:26:36

Her father gave it to the Mail for no money. He did not sell it. I always thought if you wrote a letter and gave it to a recipient it then belonged to the recipient and they could do what they liked with it. Meghan really has an unpleasant family though. She knows this so is stupid to send anything in writing as she must know it will end up in a newspaper. I think most people had forgotten about it but by bringing it back up she is just drawing more attention to it. Maybe she just wants sympathy and attention.

suziewoozie Fri 04-Oct-19 00:18:45

I think the articles are very clear. However Eglantine you as a mixed race woman who’s happy to have her skin colour complimented on, then of course, it’s your choice. But you can’t make that choice for other mixed race women can you? You should respect their right to not want that to happen to them

Eglantine21 Fri 04-Oct-19 00:06:32

Hmm.

I can’t even begin to comment on some of the stuff in that article.

I don’t need that kind of patronage. If I decide a comment on my looks is a compliment that’s up to me.

You can say my skin is lovely any time you want merlotgran

(I’d be obliged if you didn’t mention the wrinkles)

suziewoozie Fri 04-Oct-19 00:01:49

I’m sorry I’ve upset you merlot. I obviously can’t make it right so we’d best leave it at that.

suziewoozie Fri 04-Oct-19 00:00:02

Oh Gawd.

Have a sugar lump.

For your high horse, not you.

This is interesting

Eglantine21 Thu 03-Oct-19 23:47:57

Why is it problematic?

suziewoozie Thu 03-Oct-19 23:37:23

merlot we may be at cross purposes - are you saying that you meant to write ‘many Chinese women have high cheekbones which complement the shape of their eyes” ? What has this to do with complimenting someone on their skin colour? It seems a complete non sequitur which is why I am confused . Did you mean that it was a compliment to say about their cheekbones complementing their eyes? Saying something complements something is not the same as complimenting someone is it? I wasn’t meaning to be rude - sorry it came out that way. But either way my bottom line is that it’s nonsense to compliment someone on their skin colour and if that person is mixed race, then it could be problematic.

merlotgran Thu 03-Oct-19 23:19:07

Thank you, Gonegirl smile

merlotgran Thu 03-Oct-19 23:17:35

Ooh ooh!
Specsavers? grin

merlotgran Thu 03-Oct-19 23:16:16

Of course it wasn't nonsensical. Unless of course, you've only got half a brain. hmm

Gonegirl Thu 03-Oct-19 22:37:00

Good Lord. Eagle eyes or what?!

suziewoozie Thu 03-Oct-19 21:57:32

What exactly was condescending about my post? Your post confusing the two words was nonsensical

merlotgran Thu 03-Oct-19 21:14:08

Thank you for that condescending twaddle, suziewoozie
