My cats are driving me insane!

I live in a boat and gave a cat flap into the cratch (canvas covered part of bow). In the cratch is a cat litter tray. In the pouring rain my two cats preferred to go out and do their business. They went straight past the litter tray and came back in soaked through. I just don't understand.

This morning the ginger cat is carrying on again, he wants to go out but it's too frosty, he won't go, the other two have gone out... my patience is wearing thin already

My cat is sensibly hibernating up in the spare room. The dog is more of a pain in constant heavy rain because, although she loves water and plays in the shallow river most days, she won’t go out for a wee in the rain.
I’m not complaining, our lovely chalk stream river has been nearly dry all summer and desperately needs topping up.

My cat, Emmy is 20 years old, has diabetes and arthritis and has always been a house cat. Lately she hasn't been herself and after a couple of trips to the vets and some antibiotics she still isn't too good. I would welcome her running about but I do wish this rain would stop for the sake of your cats. Take care

We have a black male with just the odd white hair on his back we got him from CPL 3 yrs ago.
I can totally relate to the comments here, except Bert never goes to the front door, he will try the side door or the patio door. He too suffers from what was referred to work as "bad weather behavior"

Tara in her youth used to stick a paw outside and if it was raining retired indoors. Nowadays she will go out in any weather, stay out for many hours and rarely comes home soaking irrespective of the weather. I do not have a clue where she goes but if in the correct frame of mind my 15 year old could outrun a greyhound.

It must be the atmosphere! It's not raining here and my cats don't go out anyway, but one of them has been so naughty this past day!

He spent part of yesterday morning constantly jumping onto my dh's back (cat weighs 16lb, so it's no small thing!) then when dh was pottering in the kitchen, the cat decided to strut around on the table. He got shooed off there onto a kitchen chair.

Next thing we knew, he'd pulled over a vase of gladioli on the table and there was water running everywhere. We dashed around mopping up with tea towels while the cat was taking swipes at us with his humongous paws and claws!

Then dh moved him off his chair and he promptly went and sat in the basket of clean washing that I'd just neatly folded. As my dds would say, 'he's got an attitude!'

He sounds lovely londongranny. We once had a daft cat who, when it was raining, would put her head under my car. Result- a big fluffy head on a drowned rat body! Daft thing. She went out one night and never returned. I was broken hearted.

it's my male ginger cat that's carrying on the most, he just won't go out in it, or if he does, he wants straight back in, the other two females follow his lead, though the big black and white fluffy would go out and stay out.... it's not happening as you can imagine the state she would come back in..

Yes, my cat is a black cat too. He has really lovely thick velvety fur and daffodil-yellow eyes with a speck of white on his throat. Also he was a feral rescue kitten (from Celia Hammond cat rescue) so I think he was used to inclement weather at a young age.
The rescue centre said people prefer tabbies and tortoiseshells and it's hard to home black cats. He was just a sweet well-socialised kitten with bags of personality and as Lady Bracknell would say "The colour is immaterial." He's 15 and as fit as a flea.

The dog, along with the cat, thinks that maybe the weather's better outside the front door! I have a cat flap on the back door (in the extension) and another through the wall into the kitchen. Both dog and cat use them - unless I'm about, when they expect me to open the doors for them, cheeky things! The cat also has a little shelter (built by me) in the garden, where she can hang out and watch the birds!

Our black cat has just come in soaking wet. His fur is so thick that he seldom actually notices the rain.

Read your post and this sprang to mind. Also feeling a bit smug because even heavy rain doesn't deter my (now quite elderly) cat from going out.

We refer to it as 'wet playtime syndrome' because, when they get fed up with eating and sleeping, the cats are just as naughty as children who haven't been able to go outside at break time.

Ours are currently on the sleeping stage, having tried the door to door trick. Hope it dries up soon.

I am sure they run from door to door because like this house there is always the possibility the weather will be different at eg the rear of the house.

I know what you mean fizz - I'm cat free now but remember when puss would go to the front door if the weather was bad out the back - perhaps the weather will be doing something different there?
