What I did today

A drier day today. Some admin this morning and beginning the terrifying (for me) process of switching mobile provider. Out for a bit and came back with some shoes, no idea how that happened . Visited a neighbour this afternoon and more admin. Goodness that all sounds tedious but it’s been a nice day. Plumber has confirmed he will be here to replace our broken shower tomorrow, it will be such a relief as must your washing machine be gilly. Pleased you like the oncologist dragonfly, that’s got to help. Hope that was a one off luckygirl. Stress shouldn’t make you faint but I guess lack of food might. I’m sure you’ll look more than OK at the wedding urmstrong, we always worry unnecessarily. I should be asleep but the eyes aren’t tired. Oh dear, need to be up and about early tomorrow, off to see a housebound friend. it seems as if my friends are all poorly, not a comfortable thought.

Rambling rose don't worry, these 'haud me ins' are very light, not like a corset at all, just slightly elasticated. But they work.
Luckygirl I believe you are suffering from 'sleep debt' - a very real problem and a possible contributor to your fading awayness.
An extra hour of sleep whenever you can fit it in, will help but it will take time. You've been sleep deprived for many months.

My day: Nipped down on the Hospital Shuttle to ask my dentist about the bit of tooth she didn't quite extract and which still hurts a bit, even after a year or more.

Then went next door to pay my fees for 2020 for my elders group.
This entitles me to perquisites I find help my budget, as well as give me companionship and fun.

Back home, ate a bowl of soup - actually, last night's left-over vegetables boiled in a bit of stock then whizzed. Very tasty.

Unexpected call from the electrician to ask if I'd be in all day (yes) and could he come and fit my new hob? Yes again.
He was here in 20 minutes - a lovely lad who was polite and efficient.

So I now have a very swish, touch control stove top which I shall learn how to use - in time.

Now I'm going to pack a few things for my weekend away.

I hope yours is as happy as mine will be.

PS: One day I'll tell you a funny story about me and corsets.

I am safely home from my “jolly”, 3 delightful days with my friend.
We hadn’t seen each other for 7 years but we certainly made up for it.
I was rather proud of myself for travelling by train, my journey there involved 2 changes, just one coming back, all very large stations using lifts and stairs but I put my frail old lady look on and people couldn’t have been kinder, passengers and rail staff alike.
I had a splendid time, really well fed, chauffeured around and made very welcome.
I can’t wait to go again in the new year.
With my 2 “lodgers” son and granddaughter I can’t yet return the favour.
It is pouring here and has been since teatime yesterday.
I put a Sainsbury’s order in when I got home so I don’t have to go out.
Small confession, I ordered a Chinese Takeaway for last evening for us all, a once a year happening.

Lucky I’m glad you are taking time out for yourself after all you’ve been through, albeit not feeling too good! Like you I’m blaming the flu jab for not feeling tip top this week. Achey, tired and woozy. I wonder how long symptoms go on after the jab - or maybe it’s something else? Nearly a week ....Anyone else suffering??

My day yesterday :
GSs breakfast cancelled. Hurrah, didn’t need to get up at silly o’clock.
Tottered in to my Art Group as my co organiser was away & I have the keys for everything. By the time I’d set everything up and dealt with a new member & taken money from others, I managed to get an hour of work in before having to put everything away again! I was still feeling ‘wabbit’ from the flu jab. Home to catch up on paperwork (Tax and my Executor’s duties for my late aunt) and GN of course. TV - can’t even remember what I watched, then bed. Hallelujah I managed over 6 hours sleep ?

Sitting doing nothing. I should be doing something other than listening to the afternoon play.

It could be shock as I’ve just had to pay out £701.00 for my new specs. Have prices gone through the roof while I’ve not been looking? (This is for apparently ‘top of the range’ varifocals.) It did include a private eye test since, by complaining about my old ones and the optician needing to check the prescription, I apparently ran over my allotted NHS time so had to pay!

I was obviously on a hiding to nothing trying to get a bit off the bill so will mark it down to experience and go to Specsavers next time.

I’ll get off my backside now, and go and find some nice soothing knitting.

I have just driven from North Wales to our home near Oxford. An eight hour journey broken by a 2 hour lunch break at Castle Powis an NT property near Welshpool.

The first half of the drive was 'interesting'. On windey Welsh roads, through moutain passes and down again, in pouring rain, with water sluicing across the road and occasional patches of standing water. The second half, once we got to Shrewsbury, was first, nose to tail motorway driving at very low speeds, then open motorway, also all driven in pouring rain.

We are home now and I am now working out what I fancy for supper - and then to bed.

A bit of a lazy day today, feel so tired and no idea why! I had the flu jab Tuesday, maybe a delayed reaction to that?

Did all our holiday ironing, made a Spag Bol to portion up for Freezer, then a bit of housework...now I am shattered

Partner not long home, I think it will be Fish and chips from the Chippy tonight.

Awake early as is usual these days. Had an appointment with Occupational Health at the local hospital for a blood test, ready for my volunteering. To save getting two buses, I parked my car near to where I could just take one. Parking at the hospital is hard work and expensive.
Home just after one, ready for some lunch. Long wait on the phone to electricity company but did get problem sorted. New people moving in to one of our flats so went and welcomed them and introduced myself. My husband and I run the management company for our small block of nine flats so its nice to have new neighbours.
We had an early dinner, husband has had a nap and now we are about to watch the football.
I've also been in contact with my eldest daughter a lot today as her husband is quite poorly and was sent to hospital this morning with a suspected abscess on his throat. He's been given very strong antibiotics and told to return if he gets any worse.
She's had all three girls ill this week as well and the youngest was four on Wednesday and has a big party tomorrow. The Big Red Party Bus will be parked outside the house for a couple of hours. She did this for the other two on their fourth birthdays so the neighbours will be used to it. I wish I could help but I was there last weekend and live over 130 miles away.
Hopefully the weekend will be nice and relaxing here.

I’ve been incredibly busy this week with mum and other stuff so haven’t had much time to post.

Now I’m all behind with everyone’s news which is a pain, as I was determined to keep up this time.

Anyway - today it has rained all day with high winds.

So after looking at DHs winter wear, I decided he needed a few new bits so browsed the internet and got some bargains.

I then made some Christmas chutney, which I make every year at this time and it lasts the year.

Lunch of jacket potato and baked beans.

Then did a bit of knitting whilst watching catchup.
Washing some silk and wool delicates blouses and jumpers.
Prepared dinner of Stewed peppers and Hake.
Sat reading Hundred Years War for an hour.

Just had a cup of coffee toast and quince jelly?

Waiting for Gardeners World.

All a bit boring really.

Flu jab in the morning

Had an interesting drive this morning, sat nav diverted me goodness knows where to avoid a flooded road. Then spent three enjoyable hours with a friend. She’s not able to travel to me so I go there and enjoy the very good chocolate biscuits she provides.

Home for lunch (pasta) then braved the provider changeover on my phone. Is it me or is it unnecessarily complicated? All accomplished I had a long chat with another friend who phoned then finally managed to get a bit of admin done.

It’s been pouring all day, fields starting to be lakes and a general flood warning for the area. A break from the rain would be oh so welcome.

I’m delighted you had such a good time ann, exciting to have another trip to look forward to.

Disturbed night last night, still awake at 4am, getting weary now so an early night for me. Take care everyone,

Day spent keeping an eye on the river but the worst appears to be over. Local flood wardens do great work ensuring that huwatercourses are kept clear, and it certainly makes a difference.

Visitors to lunch, plus well behaved dog, meant that we didn’t want supper so are about to watch a little television and chill out.

Thanks BFLass and GM who suggested ‘haud me in’ foundation wear (okay - big girl knickers!) got one today. Excellent idea, thank you. Also bought some chocolate whilst I was out .... norty me.

Went to see my friend who has loaned me a beautiful ‘Phase 8’ coat for the wedding and a perfect purple fascinator. I’m good to go now in a fortnight. Bright pink lippy I think on the day and hair done plus a smiley face - I’m happier too remembering I’m a bit player in all this so why stress? (about a bit of fat)

Pizza in oven, glass rose poured. I’m warm and cosy (still no heating on yet!) and it’s good to give thanks for all we have in life - food, warmth, good health, family & friends. We are so fortunate compared to some tonight.

Opticians today to collect new contact lenses. Then quick trip to Tesco. Home to clean the kitchen.

I didn't go to the coast as planned to escape the intense heat of the city (southern Spain). My DGS woke in the night with a raging temperature and has spent a day's holiday from school sitting on the sofa with me like two bookends reading our books. As soon as he picked up he was fretting that he was missing the trip some friends and their mums had arranged to the museum followed by lunch and then the trampoline park. However his temperature has been fluctuating all day.

Watched a Spiderman film with him (which I found incredibly violent) but apparently they all watch them. Then he wanted to play Monopoly, just the two of us, and my goodness that is unbelievably tedious. After a couple of rounds however he said he wanted to go to sleep. A sure sign he's not well.

I chased my DD and SiL out to lunch whilst I sat with him and they brought me lunch from the restaurant! Delicious rice and tuna dish followed by a chocolate mousse.

The sunset tonight was ranging through shades of mauve and lilac. I think the weather may be changing. It's been vivid apricot shades every evening whilst it's been so hot.

Going to turn in with my book, 'All Among the Barley', and hope to doze off.

I’m with you about prices for spex these days NfkD I do like to support our independent optician but varifocals, plus the eye puffer test and wow! It’s so expensive. No wonder people go to ‘Specsavers’. It’s a lot cheaper - I’ve been listening to my friends. Still ... as regards ‘independents’. - use them or lose them!

I am still struggling. After lunch I took the second of my pain blocking tablets.
DH went to town for his weekly volunteering.
Had a couple of phone calls from good friends, then I went to sleep as the tablet had made me drowsy. DH came in and made a cup of tea
I have done no crocheting, no reading, just sitting and looking at GN, or playing games.
DD phoned this evening with the sad news that they had had to say goodbye to their beloved old cat . He will be missed by all of us.
I am hoping the tablets will begin to kick in tomorrow.
This thread cheers me up and it's lovely to hear what people have been up to.

ug sometimes it affects me others nothing. Weird. One year I felt terrible, but it is nothing compared to actual flu which I’ve had twice in my life.

One a normal flu (if you can call flu normal) when the children were small. My daughter also caught it and her tonsils haemorrhaged. She vomited blood and I didn’t realise it was her tonsils, very frightening. Really very poorly.

The second was a type of gastric flu. Lost a lot of weight and was again so very ill.

No wonder people die.

More people died of the flu after the WW1 then did in the war.

I drank half a pint of tomato juice after my usual breakfast then wrote shopping list headed by "tom Juice"

Nothing planned for today and then our daughter appeared unexpectedly which was lovely but unusual. Then the door opened and our granddaughter, who is at uni, appeared. She had come home for the weekend and came to surprise us

Walked to the surgery in the rain for the flu jab, than to Sainsbury for bread. Fire engine outside and staff in car park - presumably my bread was burnt?.

It has rained all day, so indoor type stuff, which I find very frustrating as I really prefer to be out.

Quiet evening apart from constant phone calls from mum, who seems to be rapidly going downhill with some sort of dementia. We are getting very strange phone calls but can usually calm her. Must have a word with her doctor, although she is entirely bed ridden, so can't harm herself in any way.
It is my day off from Mum today, sister and I are sharing the caring.
