Washing new clothes

Yes to washing! A friend who worked in the clothing industry said if people knew the truth about how garments were treated, everyone would.

After seeing a Tv programme about conditions in some foreign factories I always wash everything manufactured there. Can’t bear to think of them having been handled by dirty hands,

Only wash new towels to get rid of any surplus fluff that can come off initially, or if new jeans give a warning label about the dye transferring to other things. Otherwise wear from new.

I always wash towels and bedding before use but not clothes unless I've bought them from a charity shop or Ebay. I am prone to bad eczema and can't be too careful about washing powder. New baby clothes were different though and l did wash those.

I forgot, I wash new towels before use, that’s because they’re more absorbent after washing.

Anything washable gets washed before wear, dry cleaning stuff doesn't.

As I always say in threads on this topic, I always wash new things - well, perhaps not a Cardigan or a jumper, but definitely underwear, towels and bedlinen.

Good grief, how bizarre to wash something that's brand new! I'm so easy going (possibly slattern?) that even if I buy a second-hand dress on eBay, I try it on and if delighted with it I'll just wear it right then and there, even if it still has the lingering scent of someone else's perfume!

Yes, I always wash new clothes and sheets or towels to get rid of the chemicals they always use. I have sensitive skin so it's a necessity, and new clothes never smell that good anyway until you've washed that chemical smell out of them.

Oh yes! I wash everything, always. I prefer clean, fresh clothes, towels and bedding that hasn't been touched or tried by others.
If I'm nuts, then so be it - I'm happy!

No- never -unless like jeans they say to wash them first to get rid of excess dye. Better that than blue legs!

When I wash dark jeans I put a colour catcher sheet in the drum no matter how many times they've been washed and I wash everytbing at 30°
There really is no need to boil towels.

I wear and wash mostly though I sometimes prewash sheets and pillow cases. Once when my daughter had an ‘all-over’ rash, the doctor, gingerly grasped her collar between his finger and thumb, peered down her back and asked in an accusing voice, “Has she had any new bedding recently?” With visions of things hiding in the packs from M and S that I’d just used, I guiltily admitted that she had.
“She’s probably allergic to the finishing they use.. You’d better wash them first!”

Yes, I do it. Especially with new sheets. My mother used to relate a tale of when she was in Belgium she slept in new sheets and that somehow made her so ill she 'almost died', I'm not sure how much truth there was in that, but I know wash every new piece of fabric that comes into the house that will be worn or slept in. Except sofas - well, you've got to draw the line somewhere, haven't you?

Son is allergic to most of the starch or dressings used so always washes everything. Saves having a rash

Yes, I always wash first. Many fabrics are 'finished' with God knows what chemicals to make them look and feel nice.

My husband will not wear anything new that has not been washed. It's the same with bedding. I have just bought a lot of new bedding for a holiday home and I have to wash it all before it can be used.

I can't understand it, I love the feel of new things before they have been washed.

Never - what if things need dry cleaning - do you do that too. I only did the baby clothes.
