Petty little whinge

I dont know if I am a bit obsessive, but I sometimes check to see if my gate is closed before I go to bed at night. The other reason being inconsiderate dog owners who just let their dogs wander about and do their business anywhere and everywhere. Before I get criticised, I do realise not all dog owners are like this. Unfortunately, where I live folk just don't seem to care.

Why don't you just check the gate before you go to bed and then if its open in the morning then worry if someone has been in.

I wish people would leave our gate open!! The hinges or the gatepost on one side have sunk, one side is lower than the other. When someone closed it, I can't lift it high enough to be able to lift the latch.
I have complained to DH about it until I'm blue in the face. He doesn't seem to think it's a problem.
It is to me!

Sunseeker You have my sympathy and I do agree it makes you feel more safe when closed rather than an open invitation for anyone passing to browse about.
I had a downstairs neighbour who shared our front garden area which is gated all her visitors and family kept the gate open and during the night we could hear it banging if the weather was bad I ordered 2 x signs from ebay and fixed them to the gate and the dopey woman asked me what was the sign for ??

eazybee it was dark when he left and I didn't watch him to the end of the path, only noticed it when I opened the curtains this morning.

You could always nip out after him and close it as he leaves, firmly.

Hmm will have to think about that sodapop only a certain elite own gates don't you know!

Ah, but Alexa, it's even more irritating when you have one and people still leave the gate open!

Yes, I too am aware that I am lucky to have a gate....and a sign.

__reminds me of Mrs Bucket and Onslow's and Daisy's gate which fell off its hinges when closed hahahaha. Or opened !

I live with a 'non gate closer'. Anything you have to open, drawers, doors, cupboards etc are left open. I can track DHs progress around the house. He does not do it to annoy but is usually thinking of other things. I expect your neighbour does not do it on purpose either sunseeker but I agree it can be very annoying. A constant gentle reminder every time he leaves your house may work eventually. My DH is more thoughtful now after I walked into an open wardrobe door in the dark.

It maybe petty but if it irritates you then maybe fix a sign to it saying " please close this gate behind you"
I am fairly sure I have seen these in B&Q or similar.

I do not own a gate, so may suffer from gate envy. Open fronted garden at the front of the bungalow, but at the side of the property are double gates.

But I rent, so officially don't own a gate !

Sunseeker My whinge is people closing the gate ?. If my husband is going out he can’t open it from his wheelchair!

I'm afraid my ideas for revenge are a little more drastic than having the gate hit him in the arse!

Could you fit a spring to it, so that it closes itself if it is left open? (preferably hitting your neighbour on the back as it does so)

It is irritating though. I'm irritated because the postman pushes our double gate wide open and lets it go so that it slams back onto the gatepost.

And yes, I'm fortunate to own a gate and being so, I like to look after it so that it lasts as long as possible.

Yes, I am of course, a very lucky woman to own a gate! I will try to remain strong in the face of such adversity - and resist the urge for revenge!

Being told how lucky you are to own a gate,
What a total b*****d your neighbour is for not closing it,
How uncaring people are, when they have been told to close the gate.
How lucky you are to even have a neighbour who visits you.

I think it is psychological - when the gate is closed I feel safer, if I see it is open I get apprehensive! Yes, I know it's daft - I must say I do think up wild over the top "punishments" - purely for my own amusement you understand

Haha, yes, it sure was Sunseeker ? probably the same sort of person who never closes doors ( I live with one) born in a barn!
