House move

I'd heard of a Bedlington terrier but not the place, though usually there is a place named after a dog or vice-versa.

Is t it more likely to be the breed named after the place - Welsh Terrier, Lakeland Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier etc etc?

Yes , that's right . I think the dog is called after the town . It looks a bit like a lamb. The town is obviously proud of it as the little dog features as a logo on road signs , little bins and even some of the outdoor seats had ends shaped like this quite iconic dog.

Mirren You are so fortunate to live where you do I hope you are very happy,look in at your local library for meeting you can attend you are sure to find something,I don't know the area but the people in the NE are so so friendly we where going to move outside Hexham many years ago and I wish we had made the move.

I'm a bit further South Mirren in South Tyneside but can make Newcastle no problem. I love the Bedlington terrier it reminds me of a little lamb . I knew a lady from Bedlington many years ago and even though I am a Geordie with the full accent to go with it , I really struggled to understand her accent. She pronounced Bedlington as "Bedlintn" but said really fast

Do you go to church or is there a community centre or somewhere nearby for a start? Offer to volunteer in a charity shop? Join a choir or book club?

I'm trying to imagine moving to a new place knowing no-one. It sounds a bit lonely.

There are probably plenty of others who don't know many people especially as it's a commuter town.

Since I joined an interest group of other retirees, I have met some great new friends who have also lived in our town for 40 years.

Yes , we do go to church and have already tried one of the local ones. We will look and see what suits best .
I'm looking for craft groups and doggy rescues as that's my thing. Hubby will be given the push to find a choir or singing group. They wont want me though ?
I know it sounds a lonely thing to do but there is method in our madness.
We are originally from Co Durham so we still have our siblings in the north east , if not Bedlington. Our daughters all live in Edinburgh. We could never afford a nice house there so Bedlington is an awful lot nearer to them than Hull ( & cheaper )
. I agree the move has been a step of faith and taken courage.
I hope it will prove to be the right thing to do !

My Great Granny lived in Bedlington and I remember visiting her very old fashioned house as a small child in the 60s.

J52 , I wonder where Great Granny lived ? The house we have just moved into is a 1905 end terrace....beautifully restored by the previous owners to its Edwardian beauty. Its lovely but a small child would say it is old fashioned. Maybe it's the same house.
