Why do I do that?

My routines are based around social events: ladies club, gardening club, crafts club, lunch club, church coffee morning... I sort of fit household chores loosely in between my going out!

School uniform washed Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
My bed Monday, kids beds Wednesday.
Towels Friday.
At least one other load of washing per day too with sports kit and swimming attire.
Clean downstairs daily and upstairs once a week on Wednesday.
Shopping Thursday.
My girls are at a Catholic school and have a roast on a Wednesday and fish Fridays, plus another cooked supper and Sunday lunch on a Sunday.

No wonder I'm shattered and in bed by 8 looking at that list is making me exhausted.

The school holidays have been fantastic. Less washing and no getting up at 6!

I used to have a routine, but these days do anything on any day. I just try to fit stuff in around my activities, and if it doesn't get done on 'the day', then it doesn't get done and I don't worry about it. Although I still like to go to Sainsburys/M&S Food on a Friday for coffee and shopping. Activities now come first and other stuff is as and when; only have a good blitz when I'm expecting visitors; washing gets done when the laundry basket is full, no special day.

I never found the need for routines. I do what I want when I can and according to what mood I'm in. There's a load of things pending, though, waiting for those rare times of patience!

My mother was a slave to her routines. When I had five children at home I had to be pretty organised. Now I am retired the only routine I have is set around my activities. Choir practices, U3A, bowling, exercise class and aqua-aerobics all have their set times. Socialising with family and friends, gardening, walking, reading, knitting and some tv watching is my next priority, and I eat when I am hungry, regardless of the time.
Clothes and bedding are washed when the basket is .full, and shopping and housework fit in around everything else, as required. My house is reasonably clean and tidy, and that suits me just fine. Doing something interesting is much more fun than doing chores.
