Am feeling pretty exhausted for some reason today so just popping in to say TOYA
Ann,your taxi escapade really cheered me up,sounds hilarious????

MawB Wed 11-Sept-19 17:42:30

Such pretty towns in Germany!

annsixty Wed 11-Sept-19 17:43:01

I have just told my D over the phone.
She said” Mother, seriously?”
They will be putting me into a home, I think I will keep quiet.

callgirl1 Wed 11-Sept-19 18:08:52

I`d like to see them try Ann!
I`m so glad that your holiday is going so well MawB, does this mean that you will be doing it again?
Good that you enjoyed your Chinese buffet Panache.
Love all your photos GrannyQ, Seahouses is one of the places I love, plus the surrounding area.
Synonymous and Annaliese, your brave posts make me feel so guilty at my own grumbles, you have so much more to deal with than I could possibly imagine.
Now my light hearted bit. My daughter has won 2 tickets to a recording of Strictly, so we`re off to Elstree on the 28th!
May I add my own praise of the lovely person we know as Soop. I have been privileged to spend some time with this amazing lady and the marvellous MacSporran, and they`re both GRE-E-E-A-T!!

annodomini Wed 11-Sept-19 18:47:17

How lovely, Callgirl, to be able to see the Strictly professionals and their celebs in the flesh. I'm sure I won't be the only gran here to be envious.
ann, if they put you in a home, we'll all come with you and have karaoke every evening!
soop, are you overdoing things just a wee bit? You don't sound quite your normal sprightly self tonight. Do get a good rest.

annsixty Wed 11-Sept-19 19:27:17

callgirl
I have never seen Strictly but will be prepared to watch if you let us know when the recording will be shown so that we can try and spot you in the audience.
Lovely surprise today, a long time friend, widowed herself, rang to ask me to go and stay with her for a few days.
We think we have settled on the 2nd week in October.
Her GS is getting married the first weekend in October so she may be feeling a little flat and it will lift us both.
She is a superb cook so win win for me as I love food that I haven’t cooked for myself.

Doodle Wed 11-Sept-19 20:32:08

I have been scanning over the posts and one caught my eye where I misread anno saying to callgirl how lovely to see the celebs. Looking at the above post I saw that callgirl mentioned meeting soop and McSporran in person and assumed they were the celebs being discussed. Having now read it all correctly I still think our soop and McSporran are the most important celebs ?
Maw lovely photo glad you are enjoying it.
Well we all know who to get round the piano when we have our next kitchen party don’t we ann. You can belt out some karaoke favourites ?

cornergran Wed 11-Sept-19 20:59:46

Blimey doodle, I thought I was confused grin

My job description says I must regularly horrify my family ann, I’m delighted to know yours is identical smile. Being frivolous is essential. Time with your friend sounds excellent.

I’ve always believed that wheelchairs represent a freedom, my Mum loved hers as it allowed her world to expand. Sadly I couldn’t convince my Dad of that when he needed one so his world became smaller.

It will be interesting to hear what you think of the Strictly process callgirl, a friend who went thought some aspects were surprising, having said that she loved it all so I’m sure you will too. Have fun.

Your holiday seems just right maw, I’m so pleased it’s working out for you.

Your afternoon sounds perfect soop, I’ll draw a veil over my day today, suffice to say not restful.

Apologies everyone, my head is mush and I’m expecting a potentially hard going phone call so must try to be at least half awake. A hug to everyone who would like one, I truly do TOYA, just can’t keep up

callgirl1 Wed 11-Sept-19 21:43:14

Ann, the programme will be shown on the day itself, Saturday the 28th September, but I`m not sure if it`s completely live, or recorded earlier in the day. I do know that we have to be at the studios by 3pm. I remember when I was on 15 to 1, back in the distant past, it took 2 and a half hours to record a 45 minute programme.
Doodle, you are absolutely correct in saying that Soop and MacSporran are the REAL celebs around here.
Corner, I hope that your phone call isn`t too stressful.
TOYA xxx

grannyqueenie Wed 11-Sept-19 22:07:34

Ann your taxi story made me laugh out loud! Nonsense and laughter are good medicine, we all need it even in those who are in dire circumstances. doodle I’m now completely lost on who is and isn’t a celebrity so am not even going there! maw love the photo, it sounds like you are enjoying Germany. soop have you being overdoing things, please take good care of yourself. anneliese thinking of you, you have a hard road to travel flowers carillion glad i have been able to bring back happy memories of your time in Northumberland. I will leave a couple more photos for you to enjoy!

Well we have meandered our way southwards today, along the coastal route stopping in a few places on the way to squeeze out the last ounce of holiday fun! We've had a lovely nostalgic holiday, visiting the place of our birth, the church where we first met and subsequently married in and then onto Skye where we honeymooned all those years ago. Spent some time with the old boys brothers and then finished up in Northumberland a place we have only recently begun to enjoy. So now we’re home I've unpacked and done enough laundry to avert an underwear crisis, but the rest can wait a day or two!

Wishing you all a restful nights sleep and as always toya xx

grannyqueenie Wed 11-Sept-19 22:14:48

And just 3 things that made me smile in the last day or 2!

Nannytopsy Wed 11-Sept-19 22:36:32

Just a quick read through, so that I don’t get too far behind. We have just won at Trivial Pursuit ( DH &I) v DD & DSiL. ?
TOYA x

Bellanonna Wed 11-Sept-19 22:40:24

GQ, you have a good eye for interesting images
Ann, your karaoke story was really funny!

Panache Thu 12-Sept-19 11:44:17

Continuing to enjoy and truly "drink in" all your lovely pictures GQ whilst by whatever means yes we all need a few doses of frivolity each day and I say please let us have more!!

Seems you have found an outlet that suits you Maw and I am so pleased for you as I gathered you were very unsure about "going alone".I would imagine it is very much down to your travelling companions too.Hopefully this ensures there will be many such trips, with others daring to follow your example.

I don`t know how many of you,if any, are Soap followers,we have been off the scene for the best part of a year but are now just beginning to follow both "Emmerdale" and "Corrie" again.Usually grumbling at either the excessive violence or silly story lines. But last night sharing the episode where upon Sinead and Daniel face the devastating news that her cancer has not only reappeared but is terminal with but a few months to live. This whole scene was e acted very realistically and had us both deeply upset. So very near to what we are experiencing although we both picked up on the fact my dear one has had almost 80 years of life whilst in this story line Sinead is but 25...................so we certainly counted our many blessings.Amazing how these stories can either greatly uplift on occasions, or as in this one, bring us to tears........and have us talking way on into the night.

After a grey start and having our gardens beautifully mowed life should be rather quiet in our establishment.

Yesterday, the Chinese Buffett was mainly very well recieved and made a pleasant change.Whilst the fact there is no daily scratching of the head, planning and preparing a main meal plus no washing up remains a great bonus!!!

Have yourselves a grand day friends.TOYAxx

soop Thu 12-Sept-19 12:00:23

Awww! Such kindness oozes from our kitchen. ^You lot are truly special.

Feral feline family fed. The large stainless steel bowl was licked clean. So satisfying to know that their appetites have recovered after the trips to the vet. Two younger sister felines have been adopted. For as long as we're able bodied, we shall be happy to continue to feed the remainder of the family.

All your photographs are top notch. I love the dogs on the beach. grin

Panache The episode to which you refer was one of the most moving for a very long time. I felt that I was there with the young couple. Superb acting.

Bellanonna Thu 12-Sept-19 12:10:03

Soop I enjoy reading about the FFF. Do you have names for them all?
I gave up Corrie some months ago when the storyline got really silly, but I’m sad to hear the latest about Sinead. Glad in a way that I don’t still watch it.

Galen Thu 12-Sept-19 12:36:04

Help!
I’ve just taken delivery of my road scooter and it has to be taxed! The form is generic and incomprehensible! I don’t pay tax on it but it has to be registered.
I’m not an idiot but I can’t do it!
Why if no tax is payable do I have to addle my brains with this. I rang DVLA but they say they’re not answering calls as overwhelmed.
I’ll try to photo the form to show you.

Susan56 Thu 12-Sept-19 13:07:02

Galen,I have googled and scooters used on the road have to be registered. However, that is no help to you in filling in the incomprehensible form.Could you ring the shop you bought the scooter from or if you are able pop in,they surely must have experience in completing these forms.Possibly Age UK would be able to help?
Sorry if that isn’t much help?

soop Thu 12-Sept-19 13:16:50

Galen What a mega buggeration. I have no idea what to suggest. How about Garry? Is he still living close by?

Bellanonna We do not catch even a fleeting glimpse of the FFF. The barns are numerous. The food is left in the same place every day. By the following morning, the dish is empty. The retired GP who alerted us to their whereabouts, has been caring for them since the farmer left the farm and the cats to their own devices. He was responsible for trapping six cats - (Brodie being the top cat) and arranging the trips to the vet for surgery.
For some months, the cat family has kept a low profile. They take a regular pathway to food and clean water. We also took a thick tartan rug that once belonged to Rory and placed it in a wooden crate. It appears that the blanket has been slept on.
Brodie would have to walk at least three miles to visit us for food. Now that there is a plentiful supply on his "patch", he's safer staying put.

Synonymous Thu 12-Sept-19 13:31:54

Galen, since Himself has had his leg amputated we have been having much correspondence with DVLA and have had to fill in all kinds of forms to the extent that it has now become a type of game at which we laugh in order to keep the blood pressure stable!
Personally I would fill in all the bits you can and send it back with a note asking questions about the inexplicable bits. At least that way they have it on record that it is an on going registration and as Himself says, "They can 't do you for it"
Do keep a tally on how many replies you get and we will see which of us is the winner! grin
Just laugh! You have to! No wonder they are snowed under!hmm

Galen Thu 12-Sept-19 14:01:53

Basically, that’s what I’ve done. But what a faff!?
The shop were no help at all. Apparently most dealers fill them in for you, but not this one! They will get very shirty feedback on their site. I bet they don’t publish it!!!

Charleygirl5 Thu 12-Sept-19 14:03:55

If I had a bucket I would put my head in it if the bucket was filled with water.

My stairlift was fitted last Sunday but the seat so small I slid off it so it was disabled. I have been ringing the company x2 daily with no result. London to the West Midlands is too far for me to travel to complain.

I rang again this am and for once they actually rang me back and somebody is coming at 9am tomorrow. I have had to cancel a GP appointment because otherwise it would be next week and I really cannot manage without.

There is also the minor matter of the entire tracking system on my front lawn to be removed but I have the upper hand, if it is not removed tomorrow I will not be paying a penny.

The next buggeration started a week ago- my f/f door has an alarm and it started bleeping. To cut a long story short I was up at 1 am emptying my f/f and switched it off. I have bought a new one and it will be delivered tomorrow.

All that is left which has not been replaced is my gas boiler!
TOYA

Greyduster Thu 12-Sept-19 14:39:32

all that is left which has not been replaced is my gas boiler. Do not give voice to it charley - that’s fatal! We have had our share of mishaps with the car, the leaky sink (plumber’s on holiday☹️), and then DH’s key broke in the lock as he was coming in the front door! So he was stuck on the outside, and I was stuck on the inside! With a little bit of ingenuity, a bodkin, a bit of blue tac and a pair of eyebrow tweezers (yes, I do have eyebrow tweezers, but they refuse to have anything to do with the overgrown, wiry tangle that constitutes my eyebrows), we managed to extract the broken piece from the lock! Phew!
Galen that form is beyond ridiculous! How the devil are you supposed to fill in 35 to 44? Someone devised those as a joke in their lunch hour, surely!
Gq I loved your photos - took me back to when we stayed in Bamburgh earlier this year. If you had been making your way down the coast as far as Tynemouth there is a wonderful fish and chip shop where they fry everything to order and have a board which tells you which trawler that day’s catch came off. Provenance writ large. They also do wonderful shell fish.

The weather is looking rather iffy here after a good start. We have the opening match of the junior season this evening, and will be going up early to couple it with a bit of a pre-match country walk, so I am hoping it won’t rain. There is, however, a pub next to the ground, just in case it does!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 12-Sept-19 15:23:42

Having just been called a silly old lady somewhere else in this forum I am now reclining on soops sofa next to the aga (I am sure you said the kitchen had one?).

Wishing you all a peaceful evening

TOYA ☕️?

soop Thu 12-Sept-19 15:41:50

GrannyGravy13 Relax! I shall make you a nice brew and may, if you're very lucky, find a crunchy biscuit for the dunkin' of. smile
