I would be taking my own facilities, in the shape of a bucket or a gazunda with me.
No way would a risk a dodgy ladder in the middle of the night.

Yes! Some friends kindly let us stay at their flat in Hamburg while they were away. Our bed was on a mezzanine with just a ladder up to it. Not easy climbing up and down with a torch in one hand. We got up a lot earlier than usual that week....

We've just come back from a holiday stay where the bedrooms were in the basement and the toilet was on the floor above via a very rickety staircase. A beautiful place but totally impractical for those of us who need the loo in the night.

I wouldn't be able to get up again from a bucket.
