Fun question - when did you realise you were getting older?

Yes - I remember that Bren's mum in Dinnerladies had that problem! For me, 2 already mentioned- being offered a seat on the bus and shop assistant ' I expect you don't have an email address'. With the former I smiled and declined, with the latter I unsmilingly gave him my email address!

I suppose moist evening events do get more likely as we get older!?

When I told someone my age and they didn't say 'oh you don't look it' like they used to.
When the wolf whistles stopped.
When it takes me ages getting out of a car.
When young lads started to let me on the bus before them.
When I couldn't bend over to do the weeding and having to kneel down on a pad.
When 'modern' music started to get on my nerves.

When I arrived at work after a half hour drive and the pillow marks still showed in my cheek, I was fifty! Now it's me who leaves wrinkles in the pillow slip.

When the clerk at the bank asked me if I was coping with online banking! How dare she - I was learning Computer Basic when she must have been in nappies!

When I was going upstairs to bed at 10pm one night, and met my 21 year old son coming downstairs, ready to go out lol

Also, when I was seeing my GP about some women's problem or other and she said to me "the most common cause of this problem IN WOMEN OF OUR AGE . . . . "
I felt ancient. UP to that point, I had only ever had GPs who were much older than me.

My friend was flattered when she presented her bus pass for the first time and the driver said "Sorry, love, I can't accept this". She thought he was saying she didn't look old enough to have one.

It was before 9.30.

I laughed when it happened too lol.Thank God we have a sense of humour ?

As for me, I felt the years piling on when a lovely young assistant in M & S explained to me that I could order an out of stock item online. "Do you have anyone at home who can help you with that?".

When I realised that no matter how long I live that I definitely have less years ahead of me than I have behind me. I’m almost 69 and that sobering fact has only recently dawned on me, numbers have never been my best thing! ?

When I came from the Doctor who told me I had arthritis in my hip,now that feels old. My Daughter is 50 in a fortnight! Old again.

Happiyogi I agree. .The age of being defined as elderly needs to be changed.
The funny thing is I complained very indignantly to the doctor about the name of the department (Care of the Elderly) and then had to explain that I couldn't see properly as I had put eardrops in my eyes that morning.

Recently, when I sprained my ankle. 4 weeks now of not being able to do some of the things I love most and feeling stiff and uncomfortable makes me feel well on the way to 70.

When I realised that the parents of the children I taught were my son's age.

Not yet thank goodness, I'm only 70.

When seeing people the same age as me, or younger, and thinking God they look really old, then thinking well what the hell do I look like?

When my grandson asked me if they had pens and pencil cases in my day...

When my daughter sent me a text at 9.30pm and asked if I was asleep in bed?

Not yet can still run for a bus.

When I could no longer get down low, or climb stepladders in order to do certain jobs.

When I started choosing shoes based on how comfortable they might be.

But one day in the hairdressers the hairdresser who I'd assumed was at least as old as me looked so much more vivid. How I wished I was a brunette instead of fading blue eyed light brown haired !

When I had a heart attack out of the blue and needed a triple bypass.

Very, very recently. I'm just turned 70 and have always thought of myself as going on 18 but having had a great deal to do for DH after a recent accident I suddenly feel old and tired. Now he's turned a corner perhaps I'll be 'going on 40' soon even if not 18 again!

I realised I was getting older when I thought to hell with it and began wearing red lipstick every day, even round the house.
