Films that made you cry

I'm with those who said Goodnight, Mr. Tom, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, (I often feel like Mrs Chips myself these days) and Kramer vs. Kramer. The original version of Captains Courageous also did it for me along with Mr. Holland's Opus and The Chorus.

Thanks lovebeigecardigans, was trying to remember Random Harvest. I like to think I was named after Greer Garson ( Paula). Such a beautiful film. Mind you there are loads more that make me cry as well.

Fat fingers pressed too early. WW2 resistance fighter, Violet Zsabo who gave her life in the end. Virginia McKenna was simply wonderful

Mind you I do cry very easily at films- I have to check before I take GC that there is no sad bit. I can vouch for Toy Story 4- saw it last week & it is fine

Our souls at night - read the book, then got the film. Cried both times.

Beaches - gets me every single time
Les Miserables
Mamma Mia - here we go again. Don’t laugh - the end bit makes me well up.

Reading through the lists is reminding me of so many other films that made me cry. Some of the old Hollywood films fill me with nostalgia of watching them with my mum which makes me cry....even the happy ones!

Love Story and Brief Encounter ... still bring a lump to my throat.

Elephant Man - I was still crying a week after I first saw it! And still do now if/when I watch it.

Then the soppy animal films - Bambi, the Yearling, The Incredible Journey, ET (animal???).

Spartacus...leaves me a blubbering wreck.

Yes, JackyB, Brooklyn was lovely and it did make me cry.
Death in Venice starring Dirk Bogarde always makes me cry
no matter how many times I see it.

Practically every film I've ever seen, even many comedies have moving scenes in them.

I can't think of any that stand out but I'm surprised no one has mentioned Brooklyn yet.

sussexborn, you reminded me that DD2 took her little sister to see the original Lion King - she moved rows too.

Youngest daughter howls at all sorts of things. Having watched West Side Story on video dozens of times, she still howls when Tony dies.

'Who will love my children' 1983 film lady at work lent me a dvd not my usual sort of film to watch a bit corny for me I thought but was literally sobbing at the end lol.

I found The Notebook so badly acted by Gena Rowlands, the Director's mother and so ludicrously schmaltzy, that I laughed rather than wept. I only wtched it for James Garner.

There's an Indian version which I think is better. Zindagi Tere Naam

Even hearing (or even imagining it seems) the theme from Watership Down can make me cry My husband used to sing it to our baby.
Tears now in fact.

Holiday Inn gets me everytime and makes me miss family no longer with us
