Does your husband / partner ever shock you ?

he bought me flowers once ,by way of an apology .I was told by my friend who owns the florist he asked her for a decent bunch of "sorry" flowers .lolThe odd thing was I had no idea what he was apologising for.I didn't even think to ask I was so taken aback .He's not a gesture type of man.

My husband has never shocked or surprised me (I don't like surprises). He's so predictable, but that's just how I like him to be. It may be boring to some, but I know he's dependable.

I think the word for what mine does might be more baffle than shock. We have 10 coming for Sunday dinner and I asked him yesterday to check whether we had enough carrots. Plenty, was the reply. We have 3. Small ones.

No shocks or surprises here either. If he bought me a bunch of flowers I would probably die with shock !

Same here gillybob I'd assume he was having an affair!!

DH bought be a small gingham heart from a gift shop to say thank you for supporting him through a health problem. Gingham, heart and gift shop are not things I would ever imagine crossing dh's consciousness.

But I loved it!

My husband worked on building sites and on every bit of concreting he would leave a heart with our initials in.

I didn’t find out till we’d been married ten years and his assistant showed me when I called on site one day and said he does it everywhere! When I mentioned it to DH he went all gruff and bashful!

I'm pleasantly surprised but not shocked when DH buys me flowers. It happens 3-4 times a year plus birthday and anniversary.
I can't recall ever being shocked by his actions.

The one thing that would shock me is if he were to cook a meal for me.

This is just so sweet.

@WOODMOUSE49 I would appreciate the action and the sentiment but to bring a shovel of them indoors is disgusting! He could have just told you!

Yes he gave me a card for Valentine's day this year - the first time ever!!

When I first grew tomatoes they weren't very good... but I came out one day to find the best plant had a huge tomato on it.

When I peered at it closely... DH had carefully tied on a shop bought one with a piece of string !

I am loving reading all of these. Keep them coming. There are a few surprises amongst them.

LightAmber Yes I was disgusted. I was pleased he'd been getting rid of them but he now knows I didn't want to see them!

He's my second husband (married 3 years). We met again after a gap of 44 years. He never ceases to amaze, surprise, shock and astound me.

I'm 70 in December and I have said I don't want any surprises or shocks.

Not usually he is Mr Predictable but he did bring me a toad in jar once - found it in a car park and he was going to liberate it in our pond. He prefaced it by saying 'I've got you a present'!

I went to hospital for gyny procedure the day after mothers day. As I had lots of flowers in the house when I arrived home hubby presented me with a tree for the garden ............a pussy willow! He could not understand why I was in fits of laughter.

We will have been married for 50 years in a couple of weeks but occasionally DH tells me something about his childhood teenage years that I didn't know. As I never stop going on about myself, I think he knows all about me!

Years ago in America I stood waiting for him to collect the hire car, thinking it would be a predictable four door saloon. Round the corner he came in a red mustang convertible! That was a shock!!

Well coming home from Midnight Mass one year to be told to look at the top of the Christmas Tree & finding a little box with an engagement ring in it was one hellava surprise!
We had been living together for 10 years & never even discussed marriage. He had not been married before but I had.
We got married 6 months later- 21 years ago now.

My OH owns and races a 1937 Hot Rod ( think the film American Graffiti)
I knew that he was having a drawing done of the car by the most amazing artist.
What I didn't know was: he'd asked the artist to put Steve McQueen in the picture. He is wearing the exact same clothes that he wore in the film Bullit.
He has his hand on the door handle as if to get in.
He came home today from a HotRod meet with the picture.

When I had our first son, 42 years ago he brought a bunch of roses into the hospital - first time ever. I later found out he’d sent his secretary out to get them. Second time I was presented with a bunch of flowers was several years later but he spoilt that by telling me the gardener had been selling them off cheap! Our 50th next year and I haven’t had any since ?.

Grampy surprises me all the time -- some are good and some are bad !!

Good ones, might be bringing me a treat, booking something or simply just saying on the spur of the moment lets go ….wherever.

Bad ones, he forgets he's 67 sometimes and does things that at his age he should know better. Like following the little boys 9,7 & 5 leaping into the paddling pool ( and landing with a tidal wave and skidding straight out the other side into the bush!! Or Coming into the garden and finding him up a ladder, precariously balanced with a hedge trimmer !!

Wouldn't change him for the world though .

ginny I feel for people who's husbands/wives/partners can't of won't cook. It tastes so much better when you haven't had to bother cooking it yourself.
