Prescription sunglasses

I always wear prescription sunglasses, just had some done as cycling sunglasses and love them. They wrap around and keep out the sun and pollen.

I've had varifocals before and really liked them. However, have since had cataract surgery on one eye and as a result had prescription distance and separate reading glasses. As I was not happy with the cataract surgery I've decided not to go ahead with the other eye, so intend to have varifocal glasses and sunglasses.

ps not when I go out, just when I go on holiday and might be doing some 'serious reading', not just menus and price tags!

I still take some reading glasses with me, NanKate!

I do like my bifocal sunglasses though.

Update folks. I have ordered some very nice looking varifocal sunglasses which hopefully will arrive to take on holiday in a week’s time. Wish I had done it years ago, but didn’t have the spondoolicks then.

I don't wear varivocals but do find polaroid prescription glasses brilliant. The polaroid are much better than just tinted for cutting down glare. My normal distant glasses are reactolite but that's not enough for me in bright sun (or some shops).

I'm with kittylester and lemongrove who say it's worth spending a bit more on prescription sunglasses because they will last longer and won't need changing. I went a bit crazy and bought a Bvlgari from Selfridges because I had a discount voucher. I am short sighted and have the thin Zeiss lenses. I'd love a bigger pair but the glass isn't compatible.

Absolutely love mine- they make driving and even cycling, skiing, so much better.

I too have varifocal glasses with transition lenses, and would not be without them. Means I don't have to carry another pair of glasses around with me. I would love some really stylish prescription sunglasses but cannot justify the cost.

Yes, I have a pair of prescription sunglasses - expensive but worth it. In any case, I wouldn't be able to drive around with my ordinary sunglasses.

I recntly bought some prescription sunglasses,i don't pay fpor my normal glasses at all unless i need a particular frame, but got prescription sunglasses on offer for £63 which i thought was very reasonable from Vision Express

Mind you NanKate different spex now and again (sunglasses or spare second) are nice to have as it changes your appearance and I think it’s good to have a different ‘look’ (see what I did there!).

I do ‘fess up to having half a dozen pairs of sunglasses....

I wear varifocals with "transition" lenses. I wouldn't be without them. I gave the grandchildren a fright the first time they saw them in sunglasses mode.?

NanKate I've been buying two pairs of prescription sunglasses each time my prescription has changed over the past ten years.

I've found it really useful to keep a pair in the car and the other pair is always at home or in my small handbag.

I told DH yesterday about my plan to buy some prescription sunglasses. He said did I want to be carrying around an extra pair of sunglasses. I have a handbag or backpack full of junk I carry everywhere so perhaps going down the photocramatic route would be sensible idea.

I wear varifocals, and did get the sunglasses as well . But I won't get the "reading" part again - I don't read when I have sunglasses on normally, so that bottom part of the lens is wasted . When I'm driving or going for a walk I find the bottom part is annoying as it is all fuzzy . I do think it's a good idea to think of what you'd use them for , before you order your sunglasses.

I bought my first pair of prescription sunglasses about four years ago Nan. Very expensive they were too, but they are so good it was worth the money.I haven’t needed the prescription changing as yet, but it will need doing next time I suppose.I just have to be careful not to leave them anywhere when out and about.

I have glasses for reading and another pair for driving. Very different prescriptions. I have photocramatic lenses on both .

It’s very handy that they both darken in the sunlight as I get a headache if I read in the sun without darkening and it helps immensely when driving . I
also have anti glare in the lenses of the driving pair. It’s not cheap but I couldn’t cope without.

I bought some prescription reactolite bifocals (in nice modern frames) and find they are very good; i couldn't get on with varifocals.. Taking sunglasses, reading glasses and wearing ordinary distance glasses was such a nuisance, and these are great as I only need the one pair when going out.

I still take a pair of reading glasses with me if I'm going away.

I have distance glasses and sunglasses. Wouldn't be without them. Also same for reading. 4 pairs in total. I dont want varifocals but my OH uses them and thinks they're great. Theres a good selection at reasonable prices. You can also get glasses that darken in the sun so one pair would do.

I too wear varifocals , and the optician suggested that I had varifocal sunglasses , as well as regular glasses. They are great , but the two pairs cost a huge amount of money , but needs must I suppose !

I only need reading glasses.

I ordered a pair of over the counter type from Amazon. Reading area in the bottom and ordinary at the top.

The reading area comes in different strengths.
They are excellent.
I paid £20 because I wanted a stylish frame but they came even cheaper.I

Great when driving and can also read the dash instruments.

I have varifocal sunglasses, they’re great, I get mine from Specsavers so second pair free.

I am very shortsighted and have to have some seriously expensive Zeiss lenses in my specs. It’s a no-brainer for me to make them photochromic as a) I would hardly be able to see my hand in front of my face with regular sunglasses and b) a pair of prescription sunglasses would break the bank. It’s surprising how the lenses will darken when the light is such that you might not actually think you need sunglasses. I love them

I have varifocal sunglasses. The tint is graduated so that the lens look lighter towards the bottom of the glasses and allows more light through. I can look down when going into the shade and still see the ground clearly. They are so effective for me that I completely forget I'm wearing them and have been known to take them off at bedtime after it has been dark for hours!
