Eating on Trains

Even on a 40 minute flight from Liverpool to Ronaldsway Airport on the Isle of Man I was offered a sandwich, a drink plus a stripey mint sweet before the descent.

I thought the boiled sweet thingy was to ease the pressure on the ears?

I have sat next to a lady at the theatre who was eating a hamburger and chips, and drinking coke. Whatever happened to going to the theatre to watch the play?

I’m ok about people eating on long train journeys but, please, no tuna sandwiches I cannot bear the smell.

I was once on a Scotrail train which had no tables but had long bench seats. A mum and 2 young children got on and sat opposite me. She then produced a Chinese carry out and set all the containers out along the seat so they could all help themselves as if they were sat at a table. It was all a bit strange and anti social especially as it was a local service and not a long journey. However, as I love Chinese food it actually made my mouth water and I would gladly have joined in but sadly I wasn’t invited!

Still no substitute for personal experience GabriellaG especially when making sweeping and potentially offensive judgements.
Sadly it happens all too often, somebody knows somebody who has read something somewhere, or seen on TV etc etc etc. When one does know about a particular topic it is too often brought home to one how imperfect selected shots or extracts can be. Even Michael Palin and David Attenborough are not above tweaking what they show us,

I thought Iam’s journey in India sounded great.
It has never, in all my sixty-five years, occurred to me to be offended by someone eating on public transport - have I ever even noticed? I think I must have led a very sheltered life!

Overthehills, I made no comment on Iam’s post but on ’GG’s offensive and sweeping racist judgement of the travellers on Indian trains, their lack of hygiene and practices by the side of the tracks.
That comment was deleted so I can’t quote it verbatim

I saw a programme where a litter man was having to collect horrible stuff including human waste, his answer was to wear his mask heavily sprayed with Lynx ???

There are always going to be people who take offence and I studiously avoid having those types in my circles of friends.
I wonder how many people on GN give advice or pontificate on subjects of which they have no personal experience...just relating the experiences of a relative or a friend of a friend.

I didn't catch Gabriella's post, so can't comment on its content, but there doesn't seem to be an outpouring of outrage following the empty space it once occupied. If people are offended they usually make it very clear on the thread, so I'm a bit .

India has its problems, don’t we all. I love the country, train stations and journeys are exciting, scary and joyous in equal measure.

I wish they'd at least ban hot food on public transport.
A bus stop I use regularly is not a million miles from a McDonalds, and the smell of that on the bus is horrible.
And it's not at all unusual for such McDonalds eaters to leave their smelly rubbish when they get off.

I was staying facts as many millions of people state facts about many countries, their peoples, their habits and their rules amongst other topics.
If I was slighting the UK I doubt whether anyne woukd turn a hair ir call me out as being racist.

I will not waste my time anymore reading your posts, they are predictive and boring: mostly aggressive and insulting.

Our local buses now have signs up saying “No hot food or hot drinks”, it’s obviously a safety issue. I often eat snacks on the train if I am going to an event after work and have no time for tea!
