A friend has just become a grandmother for the first time at 74. I suppose this is becoming more common with women delaying motherhood but it seems late to me.
Friend is delighted of course.
When did you become a granny? I was 51.

I was 40 when my daughter had her first and 68 when my son had his - but there are only 6 years between son and daughter!

I was 57 ....my mum was 50 .... my grandmother was 46 . There’s a pattern in my family of grandmas getting older .

I became a Step-Gran at 39 to my Step-Daughter's DS, DD followed 3 years later.

I became Nan when DD had DGS1 at 54, I was 62 when DGS2 was born.

My DM became Great Granny at 81 & 89

For me grandchildren were a bit like buses, I waited for a while then 6 came along in quick succession (from 2 daughters). I was 53 when the first arrived.

I was 44 when my first DGC was born, having been a young mum at 21. I now know 3 beautiful DGC with (hopefully) a few more to come from younger DC (I have 5 kids), although I’m not as fit as I was

I was 58 when the first was born and 66 when the last one arrived unless, of course, my DD surprises us.

43 for me. I had an 18 month old son myself at the time, so they were more or less brought up together. I became a great grandma at 67.

Summerstorm Sun 23-Jun-19 13:19:17

I was 38 the first time, and 45 the second time ?

I find the idea of being a grandmother under 60, quite odd. Both my grandmothers were 60 when I was born, my children's grandparents were both about a year short of 60.
DH and I were both 64 and my Dil's mother was 71 when we became grandparents.

No disadvantages that I can see. By the time they came we were retired so free to spend time with DGC, although not living close enough to offer regular support. At nearly 76. I can still hold my own in a kickabout and keep up with DGC, the elder of whom is now in secondary scool

53. Hubby was 54 and moaned that he was too young to be a granddad.

Greciangirl Sun 23-Jun-19 14:23:39

I was 70, and now 74, wish I had more energy to keep up with Dgs.
He is a naturally boisterous little boy but he really tires me out.
Wish I had been younger.

My maternal grandmother was 60 when I was born. She died when I was 4yo. sad My paternal grandmother had been dead for nearly 40 years by the time I was born. If she'd lived, she'd have been 86yo when I was born!

HillyN Sun 23-Jun-19 14:32:30

I was 55 when GC1 was born. GC4 expected in a couple of months time.

My brother and sister in law will become GREAT grandparents in less than 3 months time at ages 63 & 61. Their son will be a grandfather at the grand age of 39!

Conni7 Sun 23-Jun-19 15:52:43

How lucky you all are. I was 74 - almost given up hoping!

Beloulou Sun 23-Jun-19 16:08:48

I was 51. (We have another one on the way). My mother was 50 and my grandmother was 48. My MIL, though, was an older mother herself. She was 45 when she had my DH and was 72 when my DS was born. She has since had another 5 DGCs

Pat1949 Sun 23-Jun-19 16:12:29
