Pet hate!

My son and his girlfriend delight in calling each other 'Dear'
They're in their mid twenties!

It's rather funny.

My otherwise lovey DiL calls the children' guys'- one is a girl. I hate it. I have lovely neighbours but they all call each other (& me!) Hun! I guess it is so they don;t have to remember names!

I am happy to be called anything - just don’t ignore me!

I can't bear "hubby" or "the wife" or being called "You guys" When I first came to Oxford I was amazed to be called "me douk" by everybody. Don't hear it so much now though.

Hubby! Can’t bear it!

Oh dear! You have probably noticed that when I write about my late husband I often refer to him as hubby. When he was alive I never called him by his name. . We called each other "Darl."

The word "Hubby" really sets my teeth on edge.

Women who refer to their partners as such make the poor man sound like he's either a bluddy Toby Jug sat on the mantlepiece or he's a carbon copy of Terry from the sit-com "Terry & June".

Please don't do it ladies.

We had a colleague who called all the men Buddy, and all the women Darling, I don’t think he could ever remember anyone’s name!

I was putting bins out one day recently and heard a very Glaswegian voice shouting " morning Doll" . I looked around and had to laugh, it's a very long time since this 78 year-old was called Doll. It was the window cleaner, and he was speaking to me. It made my day.

"Aw bless!" is GHASTLY! And to 'dear' or 'love', I'm tempted to ask "Are we in a relationship?"

Born in Somerset, I love being called My Lover, in a soft West Country burr.

Now I'm in Northants it's My Duck... or rather Me Dook.

I asked my husband, very early in our relationship, to only use my name, he’s stuck to it!

I’m another that hates “fur babies”. It’s a dog/cat so call it that! Where on earth did the term “fur baby” come from?

I come from that rare person who frankly does not give a damn. The clear intention of the people using said words is to be nice. The intention is everything, context is everything.

"Hun" makes my skin crawl ! Originally it started on FB between men and women on some of the chat groups- short for "honey"
I don't mind being called " darling" or "love", round here "me duck" doesn't get used much anymore!

I'm in Devon and previously lived in Dorset. I just loved being called "Me lover" or "love," so nice. Once I was called "Dear" a bit too often by a workman and I finally responded with "Would you like a cup of tea, Sweetheart?" I felt really foolish saying that and have never said anything like it again.
What I hate most is saying something to a younger person, and they respond with "Aw, bless!" They only say this to older people.

Here in Scotland I love to be called " lass " as it is decades since I was one.

My hairdresser calls me dear but as I am old enough to be her grandmother I don't mind.

I was called "hun" on facebook the other days. I think they were patronising me for making a comment they thought stupid. My pet hate is hearing pets referred to as fur babies.

‘You guys’ is a real pet hate for me, especially when coming from salesmen or, even worse, SiL and stepGS. So patronising, as if He can’t be bothered to use our names.

A girl at work calls everyone, darling, sweetie, says bless you my love, about 50 times a day! Actually called me ‘poppet ‘ today!
You’d think it would be irritating in the extreme, but she’s so genuine and kind, it seems alright

"Darling" by the girl in our local coffee shop, who says it in the kind of voice normally reserved for a small child. She doesn't say it to ALL customers, just older women. I also hate "bless" when I do something younger people deem as "sweet".
