When I was a child our toothpaste was solid in a flat tin and you rubbed your wet toothbrush over it. I remember it being pink. Anyone else have that?

I had white lipstick and also white patterned stockings. It was a couple of years before tights came out. My father hated both and said I looked like a ghost. And does anyone remember black and white PVC hats and coats? They were supposed to be in the style of Courreges, but were more C and A?

The toothpaste in a tin was Gibbs dentifrice and for me it always meant that we were off on holiday! Then there were Quickies face cleansers for the journey and a tin of Cussons talc - Lilac Blossom or Blue Hyacinth. I used to love their bath cubes too - a staple Christmas gift for ladies along with a box of hankies. Such refinement!

There used to be free gifts with petrol - I remember bullet hole transfers. They came in twos so I had one on the windscreen and one on the back window. Someone believed me when I told them that I had been fired at and the bullet had gone straight through the car.

In my student days we sometimes went to the 'beer-off' with a bottle and bought sherry from the wood.

I can't go to see 'The Nutcracker' ballet without hearing Frank Muir in my head singing 'everyone's a fruit and nut case'.
There was also one with the Milky Bar Kid but I can't remember the words. My all -time favourite is the Cola advert 'I want to teach the world to sing'.

What about 'putting a tiger in your tank? and the sticker of just a tail that went on the edge of the door to the boot.

Does anyone remember the plastic roses you used to get with Daz washing powder? I can't remember how many packet tops you had to produce to get one but my mother ended up with enough to fill a vase, they didn't half look tacky though ?

Oh, the sixties...….. Block mascara, Pan stick on lips, Gala nail varnish in tiny bottles - nails painted pale green with flowers in burgundy and pink done with a very fine sable paintbrush, Goya face shapers palette...……….
Sea Witch hair colour, the advent of hair conditioner and deodorant (made travelling on the tube much more bearable), tights that went baggy at the knees, dangerously short skirts, clogs.....
I still wear Rive Gauche.

If also used the mascara in the tray with the brush. I think mine was Max Factor and it was Blue. Piled it on 2 or 3 times a day. Usually tried to comb my lashes between the numerous coats. I cringe when I think of what they were like.

Once, at the hairdressers, the stylist asked if my lashes were my own and I proudly told her that they were indeed my very own. It's only years later that I realise she probably took a look at these very thickly coated (matted) lashes and wondered what the hell they were.

At the time about 1968 I thought my lashes were fabulous.

Oh... Maybe it was Miner's Mascara. Would be more likely as it would have been cheaper than Max Factor.

I always got smacked when Watney's Red Barrel came on as my younger sister was a little plump and I used to sing it at the top of my voice "roll out the barrel tonight....." and say it was my sister's song! I laughed, she cried and then a whop to my backside! It must have been worth it though as it did not seem to stop me
