Many times. We went to dinner at a colleague of DH's many years ago. I was a shy little thing aand didnt know much about anything and was desperately trying to make conversation. I said that my neighbours were a funny lot and that they ate sprout tops. Our hostess said 'actually we're having those today'. 
Of course now I know that people eat them. The rest of the day was very uncomfortable.
I live opposite a bus stop that has a shelter with a seat. Some time ago whilst I was waiting for a bus a woman came and sat on the seat beside me and a couple of seconds later my lodger came out of the gate and headed into the town. She didn't see me so there was no acknowledgement, but it prompted the woman alongside me to comment that she and her friends would love to know what went on 'in that house'. She also mentioned various things she'd noted about about my visitors.
So, I told her it was my house and explained a bit about our lifestyle and the poor woman was completely mortified and very apologetic. I told her I could understand why people might wonder and not to worry about it, but I've seen her since and she is obviously still hugely embarrassed.
