When my children were small, they referred to their two Grandmas as ‘Nanny with the Cat’ and ‘Nanny with the dog’.
My the time the dog died, one Gran had remarried. Immediately after his demise the names changed from ‘Nanny with the Cat’ and ‘Nanny with the Ron’.

I was reminded of this today when my son phoned me. Sadly his MiL died last year and my 3 year old granddaughter refers to her as Nanny in the Ground.

A friend is known to his DGC as SOFIC which stands for Silly Old Fool In th Corner. To be fair, I think it was he who decided on this.......

For completely different medical reasons, BOTH of my grandpas had had to have a leg removed... so when I was little I thought ALL grandpas only had one leg... confused

Sadly due to bereavement, in our family we are the only grandparents our 2 grandchildren have known. So I’m just ‘grandma’ and try to be the best I can possibly be to make up in some small way for their loss.

The 2y old copies the 6y old grandson and she can say it well now - it’s magical hearing it.
?❤️

I am Nonna to my (5!) GC and my husband is Gramps. These were our choices. But one set call their paternal grandmother Grandmum and her second husband Don Julio because his name is Don and that is the name of a brand of tequila in Mexico where oldest GC was born!

I used to be a nursery nurse and worked as a nanny for some years.

One of the families I worked for had three children who referred to their maternal grandmother as ‘Granny T’. I assumed it was her initial, but when she came to visit I realised it was because she drank copious amounts of TEA.grin

If it’s just me I’m Nan, but if my mum is with us my 3yr old DGS calls her Great Big Nanny, and me Tiny Nanny. He must be referring to our ages as mums 4ft nothing and I’m 5’9”!

I'm Nan or Nanny Grapes for obvious reasons, my DM who is Great Granny is just known as Granny by both DD & DGSs. Last year at the age of 8 DGS1 decided he was too grown up to call me Nannyhmm so Nan it is

When younger my GS referred to his paternal Nan as "Nanny Upstairs" ( she lived in a first floor flat ) and me as "Cooking Nanny" as I was usually in the kitchen getting a meal for us all when they arrived.

As a Big Granny, I'm so glad to hear that others have suffered this as well!
I was meant to be granny and dil's mum was going top be grandma. Grandsons called us both granny and as she's 5' nothing and I'm 5'6, she became Little Granny, so I'm the big onehmm

Our daughter as a toddler once asked are we going to Purple Grandma's today. That was what our DCs called her ever after. We could only think it was because my mum did wear a lot of purple /pink/mauve coloured clothes.DHs mum became Green grandma for reasons we couldn't fathom. She did have a very big garden and was often out in her wellies !

I’m Granny Cakes. In the last week I’ve made the grandchildren:
A 21st birthday cake
A cake with a map of the British Isles for school
A fruit cake to send to one living away from home
Brownies for visitors on Mothering Sunday.
