This could be a thread where the great unanswerables of life could be aired. The following one occurred to me at lunchtime.

Why does peanut butter so often come in those silly jars with a shoulder in which the stuff gets trapped, making it impossible to get it out without a small teaspoon or your finger? The world contains many other versions of glass jar - the Bonne Maman jam jars would be perfect - wide at the top and narrow at the bottom.

I'm familiar with lots on here. The same thing happens ecci53 when you put a duvet cover in the tumble drier, Everything else manages to find it's way inside. Why do I keep the odd socks for months on end when the other's disappear never to be found again. I can be downstairs for hours and as soon as I go upstairs the phone rings. Why do I have surprise visitors when the house is a mess and so am I. Why does someone knock the door as soon as you're half way through doing what you do sitting on the toilet. Why do cats spew up on the carpet hall runner or front/back door mat when the floors are all laminate where it's easier to clean up.

???

Gonegirl Fri 22-Mar-19 15:13:05

DH blames me for the missing socks. He thinks it's only in our house. hmm

breeze Fri 22-Mar-19 16:10:34

I know where all your missing socks are. They are all stuck in the corners of your duvet covers grin

That's where mine usually end up.

Apart from the one I watched my dog vomit up at the vets one sunday afternoon when I was actually supposed to be at a lunch with friends sad

We buy 5 Litre bottles of Carex hand was from Costco. I can't remember how much they cost off the top of my head. Definitely cheaper than small bottles though and it lasts for a very long time.

MamaCaz Fri 22-Mar-19 16:33:55

Why is it that when you finally throw away those odd socks, their partners turn up? grin

sharon103 Fri 22-Mar-19 16:34:35

grin breeze Where do they go though? My brother-in -law said to me when I asked him what he wanted for Christmas last year that he wanted some socks because he's got 24 odd socks! lol. He could have paired them up if they'd been the same colour I suppose but I guess they weren't. One of life's mystery's. confused

Why do those little cartons of milk that you get with your coffee, squirt milk in all directions except the cup, no matter how carefully you peel the top back?
And why do carrots always boil dry and weld themselves to the bottom of the pan, no matter how much water you put in, or how gently you simmer them?

Oldandverygrey Fri 22-Mar-19 16:58:54

Why has it taken me half an hour to peel the top off a carton of fromage frais?

Saggi Fri 22-Mar-19 18:00:32

Got a better one than that Anniebach....why did Amazon wrap my new bike helmet in bubble wrap..? I wasn’t impressed.

Hollydoilly10 Fri 22-Mar-19 18:42:19

Liquid hand soap contains SLS which is a carcinogen it can also contain parabens
Stick to a bar of soap - not Doce as it’s a detergent not a soap

Why, when you're in a hurry, do all the traffic lights turn red as you approach them and when you are early, all the lights turn green? Happens every time.
Yoghurt pots with silly ridges & shapes annoy me; I have to resort to finger/tongue blush
Why are magazines/brochures wrapped in hermetically sealed plastic and almost impossible to open?
And why, when you drop a lid on the floor, does it always land wrong side down ?

Colverson Fri 22-Mar-19 19:39:15

Why do they have to ruin it by putting palm oil in it

Bathsheba Fri 22-Mar-19 21:10:11

Oh Chewbacca don't boil your carrots - put them in a little tinfoil parcel with a knob of butter, salt and pepper and a good splash of Chardonnay (or any white wine to hand), and pop them in the oven for around 45 minutes. I know it's a long time, but they are so much tastier!

Bathsheba Fri 22-Mar-19 21:13:38

Why are magazines/brochures wrapped in hermetically sealed plastic and almost impossible to open?

Particularly annoying with magazines because then you can't have a skim through them to see if you want to buy. And even more frustrating when it's a sewing mag with 2 or 3 'free' patterns, and you can only see the one on the top, so you have no idea what the others really look like or what sizes they are hmm

Lostgirl Fri 22-Mar-19 22:09:36

I can't understand why supermarkets think it's a good idea to put latest offers just inside the entrance, it's exactly where others drag their feet & trolleys meaning I walk around them and the offers.

HurdyGurdy Fri 22-Mar-19 22:18:39

*Bathsheba8 - Particularly annoying with magazines because then you can't have a skim through them to see if you want to buy.

I suspect that is exactly why. To stop people reading the magazines in the shops and not buying them!

Borntosew Fri 22-Mar-19 23:38:15

Why does my (retired) husband ring me to tell me he's coming home from the shops! Just come! ?

craftyone Sat 23-Mar-19 04:23:21

why does HB sell so much plastic. I wanted cheap cardboard pocket files. They had none, only 3 different types of plastic ones. Asda had the cardboard ones

Jaxie Sat 23-Mar-19 06:29:16

Why are so-called "ripe & ready to eat" peaches, pears and nectarines as hard as hell and not ready to eat at all?

Pollyanna2 Sat 23-Mar-19 08:12:27

I keep odd socks from washer/dryer with odd 'surviving' socks (when their partners have been chucked out) and try to match up pairs from these - and if they don't match - so what! shock

MamaCaz Sat 23-Mar-19 08:18:29

There has been a trend over the last two or three years for deliberately wearing odd socks, the odder the better. The DGC's school had to put a ban on it. You can even buy pairs of mismatching socks,
It has meant that I can wear all my 'survivers' and be ultra trendy - now that's a first for me grin

MamaCaz Sat 23-Mar-19 08:21:04

Off the back of that last post, let me ask:

Why is a clothing fashion always on its way out by the time I decide to adopt it?
(It could be because I shop in the sales!)

andycameron69 Sat 23-Mar-19 08:38:49

ooooh what a disaster

Jaxie Sat 23-Mar-19 11:04:15

Day6: We accommodate animals because we like the way they make us feel, unlike the effect some humans have on us. See the portrait of my deceased cat Christabel, who helped me to recover from a traumatic experience by her affection ( even if some cynics would say it was cupboard love).
