This could be a thread where the great unanswerables of life could be aired. The following one occurred to me at lunchtime.

Why does peanut butter so often come in those silly jars with a shoulder in which the stuff gets trapped, making it impossible to get it out without a small teaspoon or your finger? The world contains many other versions of glass jar - the Bonne Maman jam jars would be perfect - wide at the top and narrow at the bottom.

Why are hairdressers' that cut both men and women's hair called 'unisex', and not 'bi-sex'?

MamaCaz Mon 25-Mar-19 07:54:12

Do you mind if I add a 'how' instead of a 'why'?

How did my toddler granddaughter manage to phone the police without us realizing, when the phone was only in her hands for seconds? blush (We didn't know until they phoned us back 30 minutes later)

Why does everything go wrong after 4:00pm on a Friday? Plumbing, electrics etc and why are punctures always at the worst time and dangerous places?

Willow10 Sun 24-Mar-19 17:51:11

Why do men spit in the street? You don't see women spitting! Just watching a brief football clip on the news and it turned my stomach. Do women footballers spit? hmm

Why do I get vouchers for % off, when I have just spent £'s in store?

sodapop Sun 24-Mar-19 08:14:58

You should see the pic on my new Carte de Sejour FarNorth it's a wonder they wanted me to stay in France. I look like an escapee from Prisoner Cell Block H.

FarNorth Sun 24-Mar-19 05:57:57

Sounds great, Litlmissbuttons.

Why is my new smartphone so vindictive brutally honest when taking a selfie?

Not that I'm a selfie fiend, but I wanted to send my DD a pic of a hat I made for am-dram.
Shock at the gruesome old bat who appeared on the screen! So the pic ended up being mostly hat with a little bit of forehead.

As a teenager in the early 70's, I used to eat cream crackers with peanut butter, Marmite, cheese and Branston pickle! It was delicious and not as bad as some of you might think.

Jalima1108 Sat 23-Mar-19 21:40:07

No!!!

Marmite is Marmite and peanut butter is something else entirely!!

Chewbacca Sat 23-Mar-19 21:32:44

Marmite is now making peanut butter flavour Marmite so only have to battle with one jar instead of two

I think I'd really prefer to battle with 2 jars, to be honest. The thought of them being mixed makes me feel quite ill.

M0nica Sat 23-Mar-19 21:32:33

Why didn't Marmite think of mixing peanut butter and marmite in the same jar before?

Jalima1108 Sat 23-Mar-19 21:30:08

Why, when you're in a hurry, do all the traffic lights turn red as you approach them and when you are early, all the lights turn green? Happens every time.
Marmight are you related to my DH.
I hope you don't swear, though, when the lights turn red.

madmum I'm really not sure about that - I would need to have a free trial jar to decide
hmm

Jalima1108 Sat 23-Mar-19 21:27:10

Why does anyone eat peanut butter
MaizieD shock
There is nothing like a peanut butter sarnie - but it has to be crunchy!!
Actually, almond butter is even better!

Why - did our brand new thermos mug spill coffee all over DH's clean shirt today when he was going to a meeting?
Could it be him?

Chewbacca Sat 23-Mar-19 20:29:43

Why do your eyebrows get thinner and sparser, except for that huge thick white hair that appears overnight and sticks out at 90 degrees?

MamaCaz Sat 23-Mar-19 19:41:38

Why do fingernails get weaker but toenails get stronger as we get older, and why does the hair on our heads get thinner but sprout new hair on our faces?
Is it gravity? confused

M0nica Sat 23-Mar-19 18:00:12

Why do Belgians drive so badly?

MamaCaz Sat 23-Mar-19 16:42:06

For the first time ever, I tried one of those on in a shop a month ago (though I didn't buy one) . That probably means that you are right ?

PamelaJ1 Sat 23-Mar-19 16:37:54

Mamacaz - I found myself looking at a jumpsuit the other day. They must be on the way out!

PamelaJ1 Sat 23-Mar-19 16:35:40

Why don’t people know things like:
Low fat/sugar foods are not good for you
Products with palm oil in them are bad for the planet
It’s good to indicate at roundabouts.
I could go on and on and on but I don’t think gransnet has enough space?.
Of course I am perfect, like peanut butter, hate marmite and make my own liquid soap from bars of soap.????

M0nica Sat 23-Mar-19 15:41:56

Annie {shock] shock shock

That is one of the many reasons I do not buy from Amazon, except very cheap kindle books.

Litlmissbuttons Sat 23-Mar-19 14:44:54

That is one of the most annoying things about shopping! They stand in the supermarket aisle for ages, talking about all and sundry, blocking access to other shoppers from getting things from the shelves, or moving down the aisle. It seems as though they have all the time in the world, whilst a lot of people are trying to ' speed shop '. A good time to go shopping is on a Saturday, when ' trash tv ' is on about 7-8 pm. My local Co-op is usually empty, and I can get my shopping within 5 mins with no queues to contend with!

My dogs do that as well Sharon we have hard floors throughout but they always manage to hit a rug or the kitchen mat . I've given up buying expensive rugs now, no Axminster for me just cheap and cheerful.

Why does it seem that nobody edits books these days? I am currently ploughing my way through a library book which has over 500 pages in it, and although it's a reasonably interesting story so I haven't given up yet, I'm sure it could have been done in 200 pages. Are authors paid by the word?
