Evening all, and good wishes to you.

I have been thinking about words, generally speaking I love words, such as "concupiscence" and "nidification" (good one to use in a wedding speeech!) I also have a certain fondness for "frock" blush

But there are also words that really grate!

Gusset

Hubby

Turgid

Tumescent

Lounge (as in the room, not the act of lounging!wink)

What are yours?

Phlegm..i hate that word it makes me feel sick...and i hate it when people say pacific instead of specific oh my lord that drives me mad

I've done a similar game in boring meetings mcem, but mine was to mentally tick off how many times the words "ya know" were said. 17 in a 15 minute meeting was the record.

Just don't shout out "Here!" when you get a full house.
Damn, I really wish I had heard of that game.

Did anyone else play buzzword bingo in tedious meetings? Highly unprofessional but fun!
Write down 3 words in the current jargon and score them off as they appear in the inevitably predictable speech!

Hate kids relating to children.

Love discombobulated.

"Date"??? Should be "dare" damn tablet!

phoenix Wed 13-Mar-19 20:13:03

Now, theres a thought!

There is a "thing" in the House of Commons where there is a bet/date to get certain words into a speech, a female NO some time back managed this, although I can't remember who it was it what the word was confusedblush

Would be fun to set a GN challenge to include certain words into conversation, but sadly no way of checking!

Bulbous is a robust sort of word. smile

KatyK Wed 13-Mar-19 20:07:35

I like genuflect, which I heard many times in my Catholic childhood.

MissAdventure Wed 13-Mar-19 20:04:38

Thank you. smile
I must try and casually drop it into conversations now.

Jalima1108 Wed 13-Mar-19 20:04:34

Yes, but say it quickly and the emphasis is on the first syllable

I don't like that for some reason but I don't know why

Chewbacca Wed 13-Mar-19 19:51:52

I like the sound of the word "tincture", but can rarely find an occasion to use it.

Nannyxthree Wed 13-Mar-19 19:50:12

Hate gobsmacked. Love flabbergasted.

mcem Wed 13-Mar-19 19:49:26

For a while, DS's favourite word was crapulent because it isn't what it sounds like and few people knew! It raised a few eyebrows!

KatyK Wed 13-Mar-19 19:45:00

Yes! I hate 'empowered' or 'empowering'.

MissAdventure Wed 13-Mar-19 19:42:50

Trollop is great, not least because it rhymes with dollop, another good word.

KatyK Wed 13-Mar-19 19:41:22

Oh yes flibbertigibbet is a great word. I love trollop and all that it conjures up!

MissAdventure Wed 13-Mar-19 19:40:36
