Ooh Urmstongran what a fabulous post. I'm pretty IT savvy, having been a typesetter for many years, so I already have quite a lot of the best-known apps - WhatsApp etc for example. But there are several on here that I've never heard of and will be really useful, so thank you

Apps? haven't a clue what they are

My favourites have to be:
WhatsApp -send photos and short videos in an instant-brilliant!
Patient Access -make appointments and repeat prescriptions.
IMDb -all you need to know about tv and films.

And last but not least and probably the one that I spend FAR to much time on..

Gin plus-the card game,gin-rummy. Play with people all over the world. Love it.

Truecaller is a free number and scam call blocker which is brilliant

Loving this thread. I like B and M app, scan stock in store and sometimes they are giving away things for £1. Not just little things either. Bedding, shelving units etc. I’m off to start downloading some apps

Shazam. If you hear music or songs being played and don't recognise them, Shazam can listen to them and will identify the song/music and artist.

Mine links to my Spotify account (anther favourite, listened to every day) and I have a Shazam playlist on there for all the songs I've had to ask Shazam to identify

I like Picture this it's a app for identifying flowers all you do is take a photo and it will tell you about it ?

Train line,bus timetable,WhatsApp,Spotify.are my favourites on an android phone.

I like my Alexa app that enables me to use it like a real physical Alexa. Ditto Google home, I can tell it to call anyone on my contacts list and it does so over WiFi, thus free. Another vote for My supermarket too. Local bus app ditto.

Persevere framilode... if you still have a local library they usually run computer/tablet classes. My local library also allows you, if you are a member, to download an app...RB digital that give you access to a selection of free magazines, audio books and ebooks... I use it a lot.

My s-in-l told me about “Glasses”... acts as a magnifier and light.... great to read menus etc in “romantic” restaurants....lol!

Downloading apps like mad here ?
My own favourite is WeQ4U which allows me to make calls to premium rate no’s at the cost of a mobile call. As the title suggests it also queues for you if there’s a long wait ☺️

Anja how long have you had Mr Number - does it start charging after a certain time?

I signed up for bookbub and get a daily list of cheap/free kindle books emailed to me every day. I can tailor it so I only get the genres I enjoy too.

Have to say I now have more books to read than life-span to to read them - it is linked to Amazon so buying them is quick and easy if I choose paid-for ones.

I like Quick Scan and Measure. With Quick Scan, hold a bar code in front of app, and it will show the cheapest price.

Using Measure, you can measure things without using a tape measure.

The one with the GPS tracker which means I can find my bike again if anyone steals it.

I have a kindle app and because I am an Amazon Prime member I get a free ebook for it once a month,also get the prime music and the Amazon tv so works out good value

Perhaps let us know what you think of it yaiyai in a while? This is definitely GN at its best!

Actually it’ll be good to hear back from those who try out some of these free apps what they think of them?
I’ve just remembered another favourite not yet mentioned - Spotify. For free music, it’s brilliant! Just go into search for a song by name of artist or song title and you’ve got it! Plus for instance I was in a gin bar (I know) recently and was loving listening to the soft jazz music playing quietly in the background. I mentioned it to a staff member and he said ‘do you have Spotify?’ When I said I did he told me I could go into the app, put in the name of the bar and click on the choice to add their music. Wow! And it was SO easy to do.

I've decided I'm in the dark ages. Only have an old Nokia phone which I use in an emergency. Haven't mastered texting yet. Can't use an i pad, have to have a mouse. Can't get to grips with my new kindle as you have to swipe it.

I love the MySupermarket app. It lets you compare your shop at the big supermarkets. You can also put alerts in to let you know when there is a price drop. I use that function for tassimo pods, dishwasher tablets and laundry liquid. Means I can shop when it’s at the best price.
